Sorry about missing last week, I was moving into the new place. (2 acres!) Here's the girl in their new diggs, they are still scared shitless of me, but it doesn't seem to be impeding their growth. :P
They don't look at me, they go pretty crazy just when I walk near the coup. It's gotten a LOT better since I started giving them water melon a few weeks back, but they still fly all around when I go out to check their food and water, and that is me outside of the coop reaching into it. I get in...
Well this weeks post has me manhandling the chicks to put zip ties on their legs. They are NOT happy about it to say the least. Now we can get to naming them! Anyone have any suggestions? I have 3 left that I can name.
Thanks for all the responses! I told the wife I'm naming that one Yeller, but she seems to think that's a "boy" name. That way when she gets old I can call her old Yeller. (well I think it's funny) It's good to hear the spot might go away, I hadn't read anything before about Buff Minorca pullets...
Weekly chicken update. I'm a bit unhappy they are showing signs that that aren't within the breed. One has black dots on her tail, and one has yellow legs. I didn't intend to show them or anything, but I'm a bit unhappy with Murry McMurry on the whole deal. :(
Ya. Sorry but I don't have a lot of room for them. I almost picked one and kept just him, but I don't really know what to look for because I'm new to raising chickens. Maybe in a year or two I'll want to expand and I'll get some more chicks and then I'll keep some roosters. :)
We just wanted to start out with the 8 Hen's for eggs(had to order 15 though), and the roosters are showing some fighting. I wanted to start out small and if I decided in a year or two if I wanted to breed them I could purchase some more. As for the eating, the wife only concession on getting...
I have two dogs that will likely chase and kill them if they get away from me. Minorca are a naturally skiddish breed, and even if were normally calm, all it would take is one of them to get spooked, and fly away from me. They would likely be killed, or at least seriously harmed.
In the video...
Ok they are roughly a week old. Here's an update. I assume it's cool to post weekly video links in this thread... Please let me know if it's not cool as I'm the new guy. :P
Well I'm just starting out, and these are the birds that I liked. I currently don't have any intentions of showing them, but I do want the eggs. My biggest goal currently is to keep them alive until they're full grown.
Maybe next year summer I may look at doing some breeding or something. I'm...
