I feed my Cornish Rocks with full feeders of 20% protein until 3 weeks old; then feed 18% protein free access for 12 hours/day (removing the feeder for 12 hours). I’m not super controlling about it — sometimes I get home late & it’s more like 8 hours without. Before I started doing this (full...
Thanks. The legs are blue, not yellow (oops). If this is an EE it's probably the extra chick as I counted 15 EEs not including this one. Last order I only got 2 breeds, this time I counted 6 breeds in the 11 ADOPT-ME babies! Driving myself batty trying to figure them out LOL.
Nowhere can I find a pic of a bright yellow chick with black "chipmunk" striping, which is turning to black & white barring. Legs are orange, no feathering, 3 toes. No comb growth yet. It's a two-week-old "adopt me" from Meyer Hatchery. TIA!
Nowhere can I find a pic of a yellow chick with black "chipmunk" striping, which is now turning to black & white barring on the wings. Meyer Hatchery chick, 2 weeks old. TIA
Thanks. I know the symptoms of overheating but I was trying to avoid running out to check on them ten times a day. Although I probably will anyway LOL!
I need to move my 2 week old chicks to a small, secure, shaded, well-ventilated outside coop with perches. Our highs are in the mid to upper 90sF ( heat index can get as high as 110F with humidity) and lows around 80F.
Do I need to put the heating pad cave in there, even if it's off? What...
I tried this in a plastic tub. It holds heat so well that I have the heating pad set on "1" !! I have way too many peeps in there (16) so I'm going to move them to a small coop in the run. It's for 4 birds and when they outgrow it they will be moved to a more open but fenced off area. Today's...
I searched for this but was given 8378 pages!!
Could someone tell me or, preferably show me where the gland is on a Pekin drake? And the best way to remove it?
Thanks.
I have a 20 week old BO who has been laying peewees (her first eggs) for about 2 weeks now - at least, I think it's her because yesterday she went broody! Today I checked and there are at least 5 eggs under her, all peewees, including a green one from my Ameracauna pullet who only started laying...
RE: horizontal nipples.
ebinion, Ali707, visit rcdavis20, or https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/773584/side-mounted-spring-loaded-chicken-small-animal-water-drinker-10-pack for the horizontal nipples. I noticed that the day-old CXshad a bit of trouble pecking them hard enough to get water, so...
Brooder Waterers:
I took a regular waterer, turned it upside down and installed horizontal nipples. It took the CX chicks about half an hour for all 26 of them to figure it out this morning. I also made a couple from Wally World's big coffee creamer bottles.
When they graduate to the...
OK, the CX chicks came. It has taken about half an hour for all of them to catch on to the horizontal nipples. Here's my setup in the brooder:
I took a regular waterer, flipped it upside down, drilled it and installed the nipples. Then I hung it from the brooder lid so the height...
I don't have time to read all of the FF thread right now (I've read the first 30 or so pages), plus the other threads, plus a search isn't telling me what I need to know, LOL. So forgive, please, if asked & answered.
1. Using the double-5 gal. bucket method, how big are the holes in the top...
2 years ago we moved to Tennessee from Washington state. The mini horse came with; my girls didn't. Today I finally got the coop design finished, and ordered my layers (meaties coming next week WOOT!). The orders are kind of strange 'cuz it's so late in the season, but I'm getting 4 Easter...
