So glad I went back and read some of the posts I had missed...all caught up and now I know that:
1) My FF was stinkin' because I was not stirring it and it was going anarobic
2) My birds are in great condition and have beautiful breasts
3) If you don't have a sense of humor, maybe this in...
I too have an Eddy look a-like...wondering if he would be willing to give my Jasper a few tips on how to take care of his ladies and treat them right? I know part of it he is young (he is only 5 months old), but really...he better shape up soon!!
Question...with new chicks, do you keep FF out all the time, or just feed them every few hours?
We have been feeding FF to our birds for a couple of months now, and they are gorgeous! Hoping for eggs any day now!
Thanks!
J
How long has it had the lump? Have you examined the lump and can you see anything? Is it loose under the skin or attached/ hard? It looks way to big to be an abscess and have the birds still walking around.[/quote
I will get my chicken handler (my 8yo son) to help me examine her more...
I would love any ideas you have on this bird and what might be wrong with it. It is 16 weeks old. It gets around fine (other than the normal "can't see where it is going" problem, and eats well. It has a large growth on the left side, kind of under the wing and on its back (you can see it in the...
Thanks you all, not only for telling me what I have, but also for helping me learn how to tell for myself! I am hoping to move away from hatchery chicks and buy from breeders in the future...I would love to have some heritage breeds!
This is a for sure rooster, right?
This one is 13 or 14 weeks, suspect it is a pullet..or maybe it is 'hope'!

Would also like help sexing these Ameracaunas...
They are either 13 or 14 weeks old, but not sure for certain as we got 4 one week and 8 the next week. All these BR came as packing peanuts with some banty BO, so I would expect them to all be boys, but was hoping I might get lucky and have a girl or two in there. There are two that have lighter...
Oh, I could KISS you all!!
I have had such bad luck with buying chicks that are supposed to be hens and getting roosters instead!!
Yippee!!!!
And it just proves that I know NOTHING!!
Thanks!
P.S. There haave been neither crowing nor eggs...is it true that RIR start laying around...
May I ask a question about a 16 week old Polish bird we have?
The bird seems to be deformed...it's tail lays to the left when you look at it from the back, and it seems to have a hump on it's back on the right side. He/She (can you tell yet which it is?) gets around fine, eats well, is...
I know the one on the right is a roo...curious about the one on the left...thinking it is a pullet. They are 16 weeks old.
This one is a roo for sure...it is the bird on the right, above
Pullet?
a couple of more pics of bird on left (above)
Also, I can't find a pic, but...
Oh, mercy! Please don't ever think you are going on too much for me! I was just wishing I could come camp out at your kitchen table for a week to glean even a fraction of what you have learned in your chicken years! If only.... I do believe I am going to go back and search your posts and write...
Beekissed, or anyone else who knows...
I am reading that my hens need 1/4 pound of feed a day. If I am fermenting, then it works out to 1/8 a pound a day, fermented, right? I am trying to place a feed order and want to get enough to last for a bit. I feed a non-soy, organic grower, and most of...
I have only been feeding FF this week, but last night, when I went out to feed, there was a quarter inch layer of mold on top of my feed. I took it off, and the feed underneath smelled and looked fine, so I fed it and everyone seems fine, but I can't figure out why it is moldy. The batch for...
Hi, Jody! I just started using Countryside broiler feed and they really like it a lot. I started feeding FF two days ago, and they looked at it like I was crazy the first day, and now they mob me when they see me coming. I have also noticed, like others have said, that they are eating a lot...
