Blue slate hen, and doesn't look to be in too bad of shape with this being mating season. Feathers will look pretty rough this time of year if she has been with a tom. Very nice looking girl. If you can't find her owner & don't want her, I would be interested in her. I have space to quarantine...
Most of the 4-H kids have separate small hutches just for their 4-H birds. A lot don't have any other birds at all. My cousins have done 4-H poultry for years & only have birds from about April to Sept. Everything goes at the end of fair & nothing gets wintered over. There are many 4-H kids who...
For most 4-H projects they have to start fresh with new birds every spring, so unless they intend to over-winter the birds & hatch from those birds come spring, they are selling them off. Most 4-H kids only keep their project animals as long as needed & start over fresh in spring.
Welcome! Looks like you found the thread I was just getting ready to point you to.
Ask yourself these questions before deciding which birds:
1. Meat, eggs or both?
2. Bantam or large fowl?
3. Egg color: white, cream, brown, blue, green, olive, chocolate?
4. Number of birds?
5. Hatching?

This past winter is the first time I've been without quail in several years. Sold them off to my aunt because I didn't have a place to winter them when I moved. I have 3 week olds running un the bantam brooder right now.
Coturnix are pretty easy & more hearty than some of the other types...
I brood my quail with chicks after they are about 10 days old & move them to their own pens at 4-5 weeks old. I have kept them in cages right next to my chickens in the barn during the winter & never had any issues at all. I brood everything from quail & chicks to turkeys & peachicks together...
I hatch chicks for the swaps & don't make anything off of them if I have to feed them more than a couple days. My turkey poults help pay the feed bills. I get $15 each at hatch & they go up $1 every week I keep them. Sold almost $200 in poults in the last 3 days. They now have a waiting list.
I have over 100 chicks available, most under 4 weeks, but a few around 8-10 weeks. PM me if interested. I can ship or meet you anywhere along 77 between Canton & Marietta.
Post a pic & I can tell you if they are white broilers or a dual purpose breed.
Mostly EE & OE, a few brown egg layer mixes. Most will lay ahades of blue, green & olive. I have some silkie mixes available as well. Turkey poults are blue slate & mixed heritage. Wide variety of colors.
My son (who lives just outside Canton & is the reason for my trip) may also have a few adult birds available. He just told me he's selling some of his.
