I got some LP's but they're all roos...
To get the color, the eggs have to spend more time in the oviduct (this was told to me by a poultry judge a few years ago.) The balance is how long, and what shade results. This may lead to slower production than non-dark-colored eggers.
They could also be...
Can you guys critique my new roo?

On a different thread, I picked #1, too. Glad to see I'm not giving ill advice. Or going insane. :wee
I don't see it, either. But this is like comedy- you have to be in the business for a couple years before you can call yourself a beginner. You are the best judge of your birds. All you need...
I have one that I know has a dark egg gene, but not so much feather color. I think I'll go with the roo in my avvy. He's got pretty good egg, and the hen can probably fix his comb problem, too.
No, her earlobe is not white. The feathering there has some white, but the skin is red. As for the comb, I don't know what happened. Maybe she cut it and it grew back funny, but it wasn't always that way. The second picture is more accurate as far as under color. No real white there. Here she is...
Thanks a lot. I just wanted to make sure before I go to making stew.... Don't chickens generally inherit color from the sire and shape from the dam?
Here's another hen. A little better body shape than the last blue I posted. She's kind of fat after being in the broody house for two months, but...
Hey, guys. I'm still new at this, so I want to run this by you before I do anything. These are culls, right?
Black one is small. He has lots of white on wings, huge legs and feet, and an odd-shaped head with small side sprig.
Not so sure about the blue one, but he is a little on the smallish...
I know, but they're so expensive! I think you have a good mix going, there. Bev focuses more on egg color. I think, I think, LP breeds more to the SOP. One of her cockerels won reserve of breed.
