I would be very interested in the outcome for you. I am actually having the same trouble in my 2 year old flock. I am using Sulmet(the only antibiotic I could find). Almost all of my birds are sick, and two have died. Please keep posted how yours are doing.
So, for my 1st venture in owning chickens, and after lurking on BYC forever, we got 6 9-week-old pullets. Two Buff Orpingtons, 2 Ameraucanas, and 2 Rhode Island Reds.
This is the view from the upper perch by the window. They mostly sleep there overnight, which is a bummer, 'cause it's...
...kind of plexi-glass stuff my husband salvaged off of a construction job. The roof is Tuftex panels.
Here are some of the things that I wanted:
* Looks nice, so as not to bother the neighbors.
* A run tall enough to walk into, with a dummy proof door, so I won't lock myself in.
* Large...
My EE got attacked by a dog on Saturday. She has 3 pretty good sized bite wounds on her rear end. I am treating the wounds, she's on antibiotics, and they're looking ok, but here's my question:
Will the shock of the attack cause her not to lay eggs, or do I need to worry about her not being...
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this thread. I found roundworms in my hens' stool, and it has been impossible to find a definitive answer on how to effectively and safely deworm a chicken!
This is so helpful.
I have 10 standard hens, and they all crown on to one 4 foot long roost, despite the availability of more space. I figure it keeps them nice and warm in the cold.
Does anyone know if there is a 'goat treat' page like we have on BYC? My neighbor behind us has just gotten 2 goats, and my son is determined to make friends, but they are quite skittish still. Is there a treat that they just don't turn down? We've tried apples and carrots, but they just...
Here's ours with Tuftex, purchased from Lowe's. We've only had it 2 months, so I can't tell you how it holds up to snow, but it did survive a tornado quite well....
I put leaves in my run every day. We have an abundance of leaves where I live, and I put an entire wheelbarrow full of fresh leaves into the run every day. When it was still hot, I would sprinkle some DE, then use the tiller to grind everything under, then put the new leaves on top....this...
Oh, I would love to see pics of your progress. I want mine to be a queen/king (big) , and I think I am going to end up doing 9x10 flowers? I'm going to have to find a LOT more fabric! Ha. One of my local quilt shops had a fat quarter sale every November and they're only $1. It's crazy...
It was kinda weird seeing the swirling clouds. It's definitely not a common thing around here. Mostly it just made a big mess, and downed a lot of trees and of course power lines with them. And now I am very confident that our pretty purple coop can handle pretty much anything! And no...
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking on this thread for a little bit. Thought I'd share what I've insanely decided to take on.....
Hexagons!!
I wanted to do a traditional quilt and hand piece and quilt it. In about 2 years, (or never...) it will be a grandmother's flower garden. I've never...
So, we went out to eat tonight, and while we were gone a tornado came through our area. There were a few trees down, etc, and the wind actually blew the whole coop over and into the fence. Our neighbor had righted it by the time we got home.
The girls were all loose in the yard, which I...
