I have been thinking about rehoming my lone pigeon, since she is very grumpy all by herself, but I left her in the big coop with the chooks last night/all day today and she seems to be doing much better. she even let me pet her without flogging me today! I do still want to build her an aviary...
...prices were very good, so I made the trek down there. Some of her birds were darker than I would like, but I just bit the bullet and got 11 more. *long satisfied sigh of relief*
Now, I have a nice large group. One adult hen, 9 half grown pullets, and 9 chicks... two or three of which I'm...
So, got a notice from Facebook today that my HONEST review of my Faverolles from Valley Hatchery had been removed... That's the last nail in the coffin for me!!! UGHH!
DO NOT BUY FAVS FROM VALLEY!
Valley Hatchery out of Ohio. I don't recommend them for Salmon Favs (obviously!) but I ordered my mom some light Brahmas at the same time, and they are very nice looking birds! Still, I will not be doing business with them again.
Been away for a while... ^^; I hope everyone has been staying cool!
To catch up, here's news from my side of the coop:
I refuse to comply with the NC Ag mandate to register. Not for tinfoil hat reasons, I just feel it is unnecessary overstepping by our elected officials.
Mom is having a...
Been MIA for a little while, but my pullets have been a'growing! Though I do love them, they are a far cry from 'the best of the best exhibition quality' that the hatchery claimed their stock to be. Oh well... vivre et apprendre I guess! Here are some recent pics:
This one is Chouette...
This handsome guy is out of a Silkie/Cochin cross Frizzle roo and a Silkie hen, so I'm not sure whether to consider him a Smooth Sizzle or not, but he does technically have all of the physical qualifications lol! I'm trying to rehome him, but no takers so far. :/ He's really sweet! Hatched out...
My current "most interesting" colored Silkie:
As a chick, she looked like a reeeeally pale, diluted grey/blue partridge. Now, she has a lavender/grey undertone, creamy straw backside area, and a dusting of red. I want to say she's silver partridge with red leakage, but not really sure...
Thanks a bunch elizmartin! That make me feel a whole lot better! :D I had a whole gob of broody Silkies, so I thought I'd take advantage of the situation and let them hatch me some more Faverolles! The ones that the hen left were exposed for less than 24 hours, and it's been in the 90's here all...
Alright! That's good to know, since I keep up with the flock swap ad on Craigslist. I'll make sure I advertise July as the final swap for the year. Thanks guys!
Oh, and Hollowoak, it looks like private sales are still a go, along with selling eggs and meat. At least, that's what I gathered from...
...a German Owl/Fantail cross. She hung around all afternoon, but didn't go back to her pen this evening... I hope she shows up in the morning! OnO;;
*edit* ...Yep, she didn't show back up today... I'm so sad! I've had her for 3 months, so I was fairly confident she'd stick around. Maybe she...
So frustrated! I bought some Salmon Fav hatching eggs from Coastline Poultry (which were wonderfully packaged and arrived very quickly!) and placed them under my broody Silkies. Well, someone broke two of the Fav eggs, and one Favaucana (I got 4 as a bonus!) egg within the first couple of days...
Has anyone else heard that NC will be prohibiting the public sale of poultry this August through January? An acquaintance at the flock swap was telling me about it, and I didn't know where to find out for sure...
...than they were a few weeks ago though... I'm hoping that when we finish up the new tractor and get them separated from the Silkies they'll mellow back out. *Edit* I think I may call her Suie... French for 'soot'.
Oh, and Gossie has gone broody! How I wish I had some eggs for her to incubate...
Woo, haven't been on in a bit... hope everyone is doing well!
So, I'm up to eight broodies now! O.O; Thinking about ordering some Salmon Fav hatching eggs for them to sit on, but I have zero experience with buying/shipping hatching eggs. Any advice?
