The Barnevelders need a new place of their own. I'm calling it "The Cheep Motel". It's been the least expensive and easiest housing I've built so far. I still have to close in the ends of the actual house and add some 2x4 welded wire in the front end and sides but it's coming along nicely.
Is anyone else tired of that rhyming Discover Card commercial? I watch The History Channel a lot and it's about to drive me nuts! They play it two times in a row sometimes. I just want to get up on the roof and jump off on my head.
Midgrade, darkroast, fix-a-flat, aaaaaahhhhhhhhh!
I have 3 turkeys. The male is a Blue Slate and the two females are 1 Blue Slate and 1 Royal Palm. What am I going to get with the Blue Slate male and the Royal Palm female? It's been warm here in Kentucky lately and my boy is getting kinda frisky.
I set 7 shipped eggs in my Brinsea Mini Advance and 6 of them hatched. I love this incubator! This was my first try with shipped eggs. Turned out pretty good.
So this is the first time I have ever gotten eggs shipped to me. I did a little reading on the subject last night and someone suggested letting the eggs sit pointed side down for 24 hours to let the air pocket get back into position before putting them in the incubator. What do you all think of...
I have a problem that I've never had before in all my years of dog ownership. My wife and I adopted a collie puppy from the animal shelter a few months ago. Every time she rides in a car she pukes. She is 6 for 6 so far with the latest episode being today. We thought she might grow out of it and...
I have a chicken that I quarantined back before Thanksgiving. I found out what her problem was and she is getting better. I will be done with her treatment and she is due to go back out to the chicken house with her buddies this Friday. The problem is
the weather. When I brought her into the...
Well a week or so ago I had posted about a Jap bantam that I had that was ill. I ended up culling that bird. Ever since Monday night I've been finding dead birds when I went out to shut them up in the coop. Tonight I go out and I find another dead bird. When I go to look in the coop to see about...
Okay, I'm by no means new to dogs. I've had them all of my life. Thankfully I married a woman that likes animals more than she does most people including me sometimes . Anyway we lost two dogs earlier this year due to cancer and old age (18 years). My wife and I were on our way to town about a...
I have a Japanse Bantam that has a problem. She has a lump on face, nasal discharge and a watery eye all on the same side. The other side of her face is fine. She eats and drinks fine and she is as peppy as the rest of the chickens when it comes to trying to catch. I have put Sulmet in her water...
I have the Brinsea Mini Advanced incubator. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I'm wondering if I need the smaller turning disk for it if Im going to use it to hatch Japanese Bantam eggs.
That is what I'm going to try this spring. I have never used a incubator before and I've never seen a...
So my wife and I are in town one afternoon. We had to put down two of our dogs earlier in the year due to one having back problems and the other had cancer. She says "lets go by the animal shelter and see if they have anything that we could give a home to. We go by there and they had a couple of...
I recently purchased three turkeys. Two Blue Slates and 1 Royal Palm. The Blue Slates are nice and calm. My Royal Palm is a neurotic mess. She paces back and forth in the run and peeps all the time. Do I need to get him another Royal Palm buddy or is it just this bird? On a brighter note I did...
Hey folks, name is Creed and I'm new here. I've had chickens for about 6 months now and love it. I made the move to country living on new years day 2011. I live in Western Kentucky. I look forward to sharing and learning on here.
