My hens have changed their laying spot

My White Leghorn hens have stopped laying in their own coop, and are now laying in the RIR's coop. We had separated the RIR's until they were old enough to integrate. After we opened the door between the coops, the white girls have claimed it!!! Making a nest of woodchips, instead of their...

    Mixing Leghorns with RIR's

Hey Yall, The gate has been open between the RIR's and the Leghorns for 2 weeks. They mix and mingle, but they always go back to their own pad. The RIRs are afraid of the Leghorns. They must have traumatized them through the fence. Do you think they'll get better?

Since yesterday, the gate between the White Leghorn Girls and the 11 week RIR's has been open. No major problems besides the hens being a little bossy. I wound up with 4 roos and 4 hens, plus an EE that I just am not sure about. We are gonna keep 1 roo, give 1 to DH's friend, and try to give...

What age do you put chicks with adult flock?

My RIR chicks are 7 weeks. They have been next door to my 6 white leghorns hens with a fence between them for 4 weeks. Every time one of the hens get into the chick coop, they peck and chase them. I want them to get along, so I can get more chicks to put in the brooder. Any suggestions?

It is such a joy to raise baby chicks!

My RIR's are 7 weeks old, and have been in their own pen outside with a light since 3 weeks old. They are too cute! When I give the White leghorns next to them a treat, they run up and down the fence, anticipating theirs. I have a stool in their run, and when I sit down, whether I have treats...

    Can chickens eat rabbit pellets?

My BIL is a trashman, and found some 10# bags of rabbit star perfromance pellets. In these times, saving money is a blessing. That is if it is safe to give to my chickens.

Mean Rooster gone, Hens are Happy!

Our White leghorn Rooster, PJ became very mean, he has attacked humans numerous times, including my 4 year old granddaughter. We culled him on Saturday, and the hens seem to be ok with it. They have even become more freindlier just in the couple days.

White Leghorn Hen Pecking The RIR chicks

Hey yall, first of all, I do have the babes separated from the olders. There is a nice fence between them . Hubby worked hard. When feeding them, I went through the door to the chick coop and Whippin Girl (lowest on the pecking order) just sneaked right in. She immediately started abusing my...

Lost tree in Texas has helped from keeping my chicken bored

BIL cut it down, we stacked it into good size logs. Then I had this idea that I would build some sort of playground for them. It's still in progress, but they already like it! Send pics soon.
