    Our dogs ....and Our Ducks

I was wondering what type of relationships some of the members dogs and ducks have... I ask because I have read about pets being imprinted on to some dogs turning predatory. I have a six year old 70 lb Am Staff mix (mutt) who has had both kitten and cat housemates. She was very playful and...

How much greens for a duck?

A few of us in my family are at odds about how much "wet" type supplements our 20 day old runner ducks can have per day. I do know that when they have these foods, their poop is a bit runnier, but I thought this was normal. So, three runner ducklings (20 days old)....they have been sharing...

To Crest Or Not To Crest.....

That is the question. Tomorrow this little runner guy/gal will be three weeks old. A few days ago I saw what looked like a tad bit of raised fluff...but not a full-fledged crest. What do you think??

    Duck Itch/Swimmer's Itch

I have heard that this is caused by mites. True, or is it a different parasite? I plan on gathering some duckweed from a local pond nearby and am wondering if anyone knows how long mites can survive in water without a host. Also, can eggs survive in water without a host. We are building the...

What's funny bump on end of 12 day old duckling's beak?

I can't get a pic at the moment, but one of my runner ducklings all of the sudden has a weird thick area near the end of his beak. It doesn't appear to be an injury, but more like a thickness in an oval shaped area near the tip. Searching the wonderful internet also, just wanted to throw it...

What type of wire for enclosure?

A few questions. The family and I have been going back and forth on what type of wire to use on our duck coop and pen enclosure. Most of us want chicken wire because of cost, but I really think we need something like hardware cloth. The coop and pen are lifted off the ground (two feet) and a...

    Indian Runner Height

Does anyone know how tall Runners get? I am reading some very conflicting numbers online, anywhere from 14 inches-30 inches. I am thinking that the smaller number note regular stance, while the largest is noting the height when they stand up straight. We're trying to build our duck pen and don't...

Newbie With 5 Day Old Indian Runners

Here to introduce myself, and my three runners - Ming Ming, McNugget, and Petri. (see avatar) Hi to all! I am new to ducks, but not new to birds altogether. I have knowledge in the usual exotic household avian species (cockatiel, canary, finch, dove, backyard birding, ect.)... but this is a...
