Is it too late to molt? Do I have to worry about her freezing? It has been 20 -40 degrees around here. I tried to put a cloth around her today, but she was so hilariously pathetic we took it off. She was walking backward and sideways crashing into everything, and then crouching down at a...
These are about 3 months old and extremely friendly. The male (who I call Trevor) is crowing so well now-- I love it, but it's not a popular city sound, so he and his partner have to go . I still can't post pics but here is a link to Sara's site which has a good representative pic of the...
Here's the study! I'm so excited since my RIR keeps laying soft eggs. I hope this helps!

My RIR is the only one of mine with this problem and I saw other mentions of this problem connected w/ RIRs or NHReds. Anyone know how these birds can be helped?
Is this possible? It looks like a tube with sacks folded in on itself with some crumbly beige colored stuff stuck on and inside. Also, the eggshell was soft.
Last night I tried to teach my almost 6 wk old Silkie to roost (I think she must be slow or something). Anyway, she's extremely shy and not into being handled anyway, so my lesson did not go well. When I finally gave up, she ran straight to my only little cockerel, and hid behind him. He...
All my other 6 wk old bantams are roosting with gusto while this little silkie sleeps on the floor. Is she strange, or is this typical for silkies? Last night I tried to teach her to roost. She's extremely shy and not into being handled anyway, so my lesson did not go well. When I finally...
These are one month old from Sara at Covered Bridge Poultry. They are the sweetest chicks I have ever seen! I got the 4 day-olds just to come out with one pullet, and it has become obvious from the comb who's the roo. Pick-up only.
At a week old! Are they slow to mature, or is this one defective? All the other same age chicks' wings are feathering nicely (Ameraucana, Mille, Seabright).
My chickens beaks are open and their waddles are clapping together like their heart is in their throats and beating fast! They are holding their wings away from their bodies. It's only in the 80s. Could they be overheated? If not, then what? I'm so worried.
Ever since I saw this post: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=1561170#p1561170 I have been afraid to give my girls anything but fruits and veggies. Can someone help me put this into perspective?
I read a post a couple of months back about a BYCer whose chicken came prancing over to her one morning and then keeled over dead in the afternoon. She had the chicken autopsied and found lesions on the liver. The problem is called something, but I can't remember what. In the end she had...
