I have a tough decision. I can only get 4-5 chickens. My first thought was to get a rooster and and 3-4 Australorp hens. Then I thought about over breeding and how roosters can be aggressive sometimes. So I have 2 choices.
a) I get 4-5 australorp hens
b) I get 3-4 australorp hens...
I was wondering how many of you guys have problems with overbreeding. I also wondered if certain breeds are known for not over doing it. (no pun intended)
Can i keep my 3 australorp hens and roo with a golden phoenix roo they will be raised together? Could that be to many roos for for the hens causing the males to fight?

I was wondering what I could do to make a cheap run. I was planning on using T-posts but i wasnt sure what kind of wire, how many posts or how tall to make the fence. It needs to house 4 Australorps, but i plan on getting more so i need extra space.
thanks,
Sean
I ordered 3 Australorp hens and 1 roo from meyer hatchery. I was wondering if you have any advice about this breed. Any info will be gladly appreciated. These are my first chicks ever but i do know the basics of brooding. so i mostly need advice that comes with experience and not just text...
I was wondering what kind of insulation i should use or maybe some sort of make shift insulation such as styrofoam or maybe packing peanuts lol... what are your ideas.
Thanks,
Sean
IS there anyway i can let my dogs out while my chickens are free ranging? I have 2 mutts one is a dalmation mix and the other is beagle mix. I have 3 Australorp hens and 1 roo.
I Live in Ohio and are winters aren't to cold. We do have alot of wind chill though. Anyway i was wondering if anyone has any ideas for my coop and should i use insulation? I will be getting the chicks September 2nd and they will be Australorps which are winter hardy.
