    Lineolated parrotlets.

Hi. I have a couple of blue lineolated parrotlets. Here, they´re called Catarinas. I´ve had them for about a year and a half. They´ve calmed down a fair bit since I first got them, though they´re not hand-tame or anything. They just don´t panic in their cage any more when I go near...

    Leg rings,,flatband or spiral?

Which is best for geese and why, please? I don´t think they´ll be easy to get here, although they must exist somewhere, so I´ll have to order them in, but I need to know what´s best to get. Opinions? It´s just so I can tell which goslings are from which parents. It´s easy to know now, but...

Hi, we have about 2 acres of grass-land, since we moved here a few years ago we´ve planted loads of saplings, have chickens and geese, though not a lot, and we work hard at keeping the grass down! It grows to 4ft tall if we do nothing. Looks terrible We thought about putting acouple of sheep...

    Curious about the genetics

Hi, I have a trio of auto-sexing pilgrim/cottonpatch-type geese, which hatch out goslings in accord, and I also have 3 sisters of unknown breed, one is white, 2 look a bit like saddle-back cottons, except they all have orange/pink bills. Now, the gander mated with the saddle-backs and 2...

    How long fertile?

Hi, I got a turkey hen a couple of weeks ago, sweet little thing, was in acage all on her own, so I brought her home. I´´ve no idea of her back-ground, age or anything. She´s started to lay. My question is, if she´d been with a tom before I got her, which is at least 2 weeks ago, could she...

2 days to go to hatch and goose broke egg.

Hi, I discovered today that my goose has broken an egg, the air-sac end. It has a live gosling inside. There´s quite a hole there, so i taped it to try to keep the humidity in. Is there anything abetter I can do to help it survivie until the right hatch day? The membrane is still intact.

Hi, I discovered that my goose has broken one of her eggs the air-sac end. There´s a live gosling inside, but I reckon it shouldn´t hatch for a couple of days. The membrane is intact. Is there anything I can do to help it until it´s due? I put a piece of sticky tape over the hole so that the...

    Brahma hen sick or not?

About a year ago I bought a brahma hen and cock. The first day I noticed she had breathing difficulties, so I gave her some medicine that is commonly used around here. Not much change, but she went on to lay and raise a number of chicks well enough. On and off she´s had a problem, most often...

Without a drake muscovy, will be females fly away in search of one?

Hi, I have a Drake about 2 years old, and 5 females, all free-range, and all but one of the females is perfectly able to fly, and they fly well, but always come back. Now, I have an increasing number of ducklings which are very sweet, and in general I manage to find homes for them, or get a...

this came out of a blue egg

Hi, I got a dozen eggs from the farm nearby and put them under a broody chicken. One egg was blue, hatched along with the rest. All of the chicks developed into what are referred to here as "indios", a mottley and very common type of chicken with some obvious asian background. Interesting...

What dýou reckon this is, then?

Hi, I got some more chicks from a supplier that gets chicks from a hatchery. It´s no good relating the breed names he uses, as they don´t make sense...(for example, here the Delaware is called Canadense, there´s one in my avatar), so I got these other chicks from him...(.he gets a mixed batch...

    Decent Delawares?

Hi, I have a trio of Delawares, or at least I believe them to be. Here where I live (São Paulo state) they´re referred to as Canadense (Canadians). I bought them at a week old from a bird dealer who gets a number of chicks in each week, various breeds, so I reckon these must be hatchery. I´d...
