Happiness is not having what you want

It's wanting what you have. What are you grateful for? I am grateful for friends I have made. I am grateful for a new start in my life.

    Swan Song

If my lean is to the right and my convictions proper I can say just what I like and no one will cry "stop her!" I'll lift my nose and curl my lip and sneer at your convictions My words become so holy , my thoughts are an inscription But if I stand on my own feet without a credo on my sleeve...

    What Happened?

I got my chickens in April. Typically I have been getting 4-5 eggs a day for the past month or so. Today I found 16 eggs. Should I expect this to continue? If so, I need to find a place to sell them, quick.

I have had it with professional victims

Some people I know just can't take responsibility for their own actions. They always play victim. THEY are always treated unfairly. THEY are never understood. EVERYONE takes advantage of them, is mean to them, fails to understand them. They don't see their own role in their little dramas and are...

We are doomed if educators can't write

A friend forwarded me a message written by her son's middle school principal. In the letter he makes reference to something that happens on "Friday's". Don't even educators know basic grammar rules anymore? Our language is doomed.

    Home grown meal

I threw together a simple meal of eggs, potatoes, peppers, and onions, and then it hit me- the eggs came from my chickens and all the rest came from my garden. The only thing I used that came from the store was some olive oil. Not only did this meal taste good, it felt good, too.

Queen of the Coop - Ode to Fowl

She is the Queen, she rules the roost She really is amazing She flies to her perch way above The place where fools are grazing Above them all, she preens herself Her fans, she knows, demand it And when they don't bow down to her She simply cannot stand it She bucks and clucks and flaps her...

I get the feeling there are some who doubt that anyone could possibly be happy as a single person. Am I the only one who doesn't need to be paired up in order to be complete and happy? Show of hands, please.

    My Redstar chased my cat

I looked out on my deck and saw my 20 week old redstar chasing my cat - a confirmed bird killer. Finally he knows how the birds feel when he does it.

Do you know where your food comes from?

I was in supermarket deli and I asked the kid behind the counter which of the salads were vegetarian. He asked me if beans are meat? I felt like saying, yes, we went bean hunting last weekend and shot a big one. Yikes. The only thing that I can think of vaguely reminiscent of beans is the...

    Chickens on the roof

I found evidence of a racoon earlier - tipped trash can, torn up wrappers- and I couldn't find my sebrights. I was worried until I looked up - they were on the roof of the house looking down at me. I live in a 2 story house- I didn't know they could fly that well. Wish I had had my camera with me.

    Mystery Shopping

I have a full time job but as a single parent, I sometimes need extra money. I have been doing product demonstrations and mystery shopping on weekends, and/or after work. I made over $200 this week. The mystery shops often take 10 minutes or less and I chose locations on my way home from work...
