I am building a 3' x 5' coop for someone. they currently have just 3 hens but want to get 2 more. will this be enough room for them?
i am going to put in 2 nest boxes just in case a hen goes broody(they have a bantam X hen)
it'll have an access door for cleaning and run door of course. any...
We're thinking of thinning out the group again and maybe getting rid of the little coop we build last year.
we built it completely out of recycled/free materials But it is extremely sturdy and predator safe. it's very cute also.
the roof needs to be tidied up and new paint put on but other...
I really like the idea of having a pipe or pvc pipe feeder and waterer. it'll give the chickens more space and from the sounds of it, GREATLY reduce the feed waste!!
I'd really like to see some pictures of all your pipe feeders & waterers before I decide how I want to make mine.
Thanks Everyone!!
NOTE: I wasnt sure where to post this question so i also put it in ducks section too. sorry for the double post
I have a hen that decided to build her nest under a broken down lawnmower in the back yard. shes nestled right between the bags on the back of it.

I have a hen that decided to build her nest under a broken down lawnmower in the back yard. shes nestled right between the bags on the back of it.
We had planned on moving this mover out of the yard so i was wondering how do you all think she would react to me moving the mower from over her...
I have too many ducklings so its time to get rid of some, the daddy is fawn & white Runner and the momma is a GC/Buff mix. They all stand like a runner.
mom is an excellent layer so the babies(hens) should be too.
I'm asking $3/ea for pickup only since i dont know how to ship live birds.
I've found different answers everywhere online regarding required Sq.Footage for the coop and run.
I really want to eliminate the old coop since it was kind of a thrown together one..and build a more suitable, better looking spacious one for my girls and rooster.
so total i have 8 birds right...
So after my cochin hen went broody, my other cochin hen and a bantam EE hen both went broody within a week...
in the shuffle of hens, they mixed the eggs all up. they've hatched most of the original eggs, theres just about 5 left.
so tonight (now that i have a fresh dozen) i decided to give...
i just noticed one of my chicks has developed a crooked beak, its a little over a week old i think, this is a very recent development. if i can fix it how do i go about that??
thanks everyone. its a little Araucana chick.
Is calf mana okay for chicks to eat? I feed it to my broodies in a wet mash with crumble but theres babies and i am not sure if its okay for them or not.
i have a baby with a 'firm' tummy and i think she may have eaten some of the mash.
My little serama chick seems to be in distress. i checked her all out and she has a 'lumpy' area back near her vent on her tummy. she continues to peep (almost rhythmically) and her little tail keeps going up n down like shes trying to go but nothing is happening.
what can i do?
i brought her...
I was wondering if anyone else out there has any ideas or suggestions for Mess free waterer for ducklings?
mine seem to be so messy when it comes to drinking, the whole brooder is soaked daily.
for now i turned a plastic container into a water 'dish'...hopefully it'll cut back on the mess.
I just set my eggs a few minutes ago and was wondering if anyone else set theirs today or tonight? It would be neat to hatch along with someone else.
I just put in:
5 Pure Muscovy Eggs
5 Runner/GC Eggs
3 EE Eggs (possibly X's)
4 LH-X
8 Mixed Brown Eggs
All the ones with hearts on them are...
My little girl Kahlua has developed a 'droopy' wing, i assume bcause her big feathers are coming in rather quickly. is this angel wing? i have never had a duck with angel wing before so i figured id make sure.
if it is, i have seen that some people on here tape them up, how long does her wing...
Freeb needs a new home, he is the last extra drake i have and as much as i hate to i really need to get rid of him. i want hime to go to a good home though, for either a pet or a breeder. He is used to free ranging but doesnt mind being in the pen. he's extremely people friendly and loves...
I am making a new area for the new chicks while they grow, eventually the bantams will be moved into it. i have a little house already but wanted some ideas for the yard area.
would really appreciate pictures of your chicken runs/yards/areas.
thanks everyone!
I went out to check the babies this morning and found one of my little guys sitting away from the others and looking a little too sleepy. i picked him up and noticed there was gunk in his eyes. i cleaned him off with warm water & He's with me right now, separated from the others.
hes the only...
i got this egg from a friend, it's purebred bantam araucana. it hatched out the cutest little tufted black/white chick, it's just adorable! lovely big cheek poofs but i dont know if its rumpless. from what i've read on here about it(which isnt much!) its kind of random gene.
Any anyone know if...
So a few weeks ago I posted about a cracked duck egg i had. it was the result of my butter fingers while turning the eggs
i ended up sealing the good sized 'spider' crack with a color crayon (only thing i had available at the time). I decided i would name the duckling Crayola, after the color...
