    Blood in the yolks

I have 6 hens and usually get 4-5 eggs per day. Probaly 30-40% of my eggs have some sort of blood in the yolks or in the whites. Its usually a string of blood across the yolk or a dark blood colored spot in the white. My wife usually throws them away when she cracks them. We sell some eggs and I...

    Dead Chickens

I have 6 hens right now. They are 1.5 years old. I been haveing one hen die about every 3-4 months. They never are sick or anything, they just die. None of the others in the flock ever act sick. Not sure why they just croak. Could they be eggbound or something? Anyone have any ideas.

    Chicken door size

I want to add a small door on my run only for the chickens to use. I want to make it small as possible to discourage predators. How small can I make it and the chickens still be able to get in and out ok? Im thinking maybe 9"x12". I have standard chickens. RI reds and Buff Orpingtons.

    Blood specks in egg yolks.

I have seven hens and get 5-7 eggs per day. I would say about 40% of the time when I crack an egg to eat in the mornings the yolk will have a small blood speck about 1/8 inch in size. Sometimes there might be several of them, only smaller. Dont really want to eat it, I just usually pick it out...

I know this has been discussed in length on BYC forum, but I want to add some Bantys to my flock of seven standard hens. Whats the proper way to quarantine these new birds and introducing them to the flock so they will be accepted? Thanks

I want to fertilize my pasture this week. Should I make sure my chickens stay locked up in their coop until the fertilizer disappears in a few days. I just wonder if they would eat it. The girls will be so disappointed if they cant get out.
