Scalex for mites- egg usage after application?

Hello, One of my hens has gone broody and has mites. I got Scalex and treated her, my other 4 hens, and the coop. My question is about if you have to wait a certain period of time to use eggs from treated birds? There was nothing on the label and haven't found anything yet online. Thanks for any...

Pullets won't go inside at night

Hi everyone, We have 2 hens that are almost a year and a half and 3 girls that are about 5 months old. The three older ones refuse to go inside the coop at night on their own like the older two and I have to put them inside every single night. Any suggestions on getting them to learn to go...

New chickens introduced into flock -help!

We introduced our new chickens (3 of the between 8-10 weeks) officially into our existing flock of 2 hens who are 1 year old. We had them in the run in a safe container and this was the fist day we let them out. One of the hens was especially pecky and the babies pretty much hid all afternoon...

    Comb laying over?

Hello, we have a 1 year old hen whose comb is still red but tonight the comb was laying over to the side a little. She seems to be acting fine but this concerned me. If her comb still has good color and she is behaving ok is the comb laying over ok or could there be anything wrong with her...

    Babies keep dying

Hi everyone, I have done everything I have learned to do with these babies. Kept the temp warm enough, clean water everyday, medicated chick feed, warm And cool area in brooder, etc... And we have lost 6 chicks so far (all at about a week old) with only one left. First 3 I'm pretty sure they...

    3rd polish died...

Ok, when I bought my 3 polish bantams Saturday they all had poop caked on their butts and the girl tried to sell me the story that they are fine. So 2 died Wednesday night and now the third passed last night. We are so sad. I went and bought 2 more chicks yesterday because I didn't want our...

We lost 2 of our 3 chicks last night

Last night I noticed one of our chicks wings being a little droopy and this morning when I went to check on them 2 were dead leaving just one chick still alive. I am so sad. I have always heard you shouldn't have just one chick. We have 2 Hens she will go outside with when she's older but I'm...

    Is this poop ok?

I have 3 polish bantam chicks and I have looked and looked at posts on chicken poop and I haven't seen anything like this. They are all 3 eating and drinking normally, and move actively around the brooder. The poop is strange and they do get poop dried on their fluffy butts. They are on...

    Closing coop at night?

So here in Southern California it's starting to cool off at night and here in HB the lows are dropping down to the high 40's (48ish?) and I'm struggling with closing the door to the coop. They are in an enclosed run and go inside by themselves when it gets dark and I have left it open for...

Any ideas for breed and gender?

These guys are about 4 1/2 months old now and I'm hoping they are both hens but thought I would come on here and check. No crowing but they make a noise that sounds like a dinosaur mixed with clucking. Lol. Anyways, Any thoughts? [/IMG]

    Scared of lettuce?

So I tried giving our 4 chicks a few pieces of spinach lettuce ( with some grit) as a treat. Those 4 were scared to death of those tiny pieces of lettuce! They couldn't get further into a corner, piling on top,of each other to get away from the dreaded lettuce! Lol! Is this normal?

Adding a new chick at 5 weeks?

Based on a few opinions and my own gut instinct I'm pretty sure 2 of my 4 chicks are cockerels. We can't have them in our city so I'm left with a decision. I would have to rehome the two cockerels but wanted to have 4 chickens. Can you bring in 2 new chicks if you get a pullet that's 4 weeks old...

Pretty sure I have 2 roos...

These guys are just about 4 weeks old but the two light colored ones have very prominent combs and I'm beginning to see red underneath one's beak(#2) (waddle?) Any thoughts on the gender of these guys? Thanks for the input! #1 #2 #3 #4

    Start of rooster spur?

So I'm starting to think that 3 of my 4 chicks are roos. 3 have this little bump on their legs, right above their foot. They are also especially spunky and "face off" against each other. Ugh. Is this the start of rooster spurs or do hens have this as well? This one is 3 weeks old.

    Sick chick :(

One of our EE chicks is not doing so hot. She is really lethargic, just kind of sits there and sleeps with her head down. She's only 6 days old. She was fine yesterday but today I can tell something isn't right. I did squirt a little sugar water in her mouth because I haven't seen her eat or...

    Heating?

Hi everyone, I am in Southern California by the beach and will be putting our chicks outside in about a month-5 weeks. Can anyone give me a good idea of what temps are ok without alternative heat for chicks? Our coop isn't super close to a power source so I'm trying to figure that out. Thanks...
