My BO hatched out 8 EE chicks 8 weeks ago. I am hoping for at least half hens, but it seems like they are all fighting and challenging each other. Only one has a larger redder comb so far. What are my chances for some hens?

Hey everybody! I am so mad I could chew nails.
Along with another teacher, I am taking 30-40 minority high school students on a field trip to a local art museum and then to lunch at a nearby McDonalds. We have been to this McDonalds several times without incident. In fact, once or twice...
There is a short article and photo about chickens in NYC, and the entire urban chicken movement on page 22 of the April 2009 issue of National Geographics!
I came home from the gym today a little before 10. The chickens were out and I noticed that Poofy, our only EE, was off by herself, being curious. She started following me around, and when I went to unlock the door, she flew onto my shoulder. So I brought her in the house and walked around...
I need to do something, I am so sedentary. In my town there is both a Curves and a Ladies of America. Anybody have experience, either good or bad, with either one?
My two silkie roosters seem to have a partnership. The white one, Onigiri, is the protector. When they are out in the yard, he does not rest for watching out. If the girls separate into two groups, he seems to get really nervous trying to keep up. The partridge one, Boss Man, is the food...
My chickens have been so bored lately, with rain and snow keeping them "cooped" up. And it gets dark so early that many days there's no time to let them out of the run for a little while before dark. So yesterday, we bought 25 feeder goldfish, put them in 2 inches of water in a large sturdy...
We ended up with two silkie roos and 5 large breed gals, all exactly the same age, nearly 20 weeks. From day one, Boss Man acted like a roo. He was larger, more erect, and, well, kind of the boss. Onigiri was a spoiled and pampered little girl (we thought). She would peep loudly when cold...
I like to eat whole buckwheat (aka kasha), cooked like oatmeal, for breakfast. Today I made a double batch and shared with the chickies. They loved it! Boss Man, my silkie with cross beak, stayed a long time eating.
This is my BO and my two silkies working on a brave little plant that still dares to exist below the side of the new run. Buffy (the BO) eventually dug it out and ate it.
This is Zelda the SLW on my leg.
This is Big Poofy the EE sleeping on my leg.
All chicks are four weeks old.
My coop and run are finally finished. Well, there is a little touch up work to do, but the chickens are in there and loving it!

We were sitting in the run about 6:30 tonight, and it was getting dark because a storm was coming, and our almost four week old chickens started jumping on her and snuggling in to sleep. She asked me to put the last three on her, the two silkies and the australorp. The white silkie stopped...
We went to turn on the heat light for the night, and its burned out! I only used it for two weeks! So we suspended a heating pad just above the litter (they, 7 two and a half week old chicks, are in the coop already). They were scared of it, but when I picked them up from the corner and moved...
I am so excited! My chicks were promised by tomorrow from MPC and we got them TODAY! 7 chicks, all perfect! We were worried about the heat wave but they all started eating and drinking right away. One each of the following girls: easter egger, austrolorp, buff orpington, silver pencilled...
Other than junk and clutter, I think I collect plants. I read all about ornamental plants and I think, Oh, I'd like to try one of these, and one of those. Over the years, I have accumulated so many. I have so many things in bloom right now, and it just made me realize how many plants I...
Can anyone share opinions on the pros and cons of using this material for a coop roof? I was thinking about the clear, so that there is more light inside the coop. Does it hold up well? Can a predator tear it up? Is there such a thing as too much light?
Yeah, there's an azalea where I plan to put my run. On the list of good and bad foods, azaleas are listed as poison, but I have also seen them on lists of plants that chickens won't eat. I thought it might amuse the chickens to have a little bush in the run, and it would look pretty too, but...
