I'm running a Brinsea Mini Advance and my area is under a tornado watch and a major storm is planned to come through in about an hour and a half. There's already 50mph winds and the power has flickered a bit.
I want to be prepared in case the power goes out for my incubator. I know you aren't...
Woodie, my Spangled Orlaff, could not stand when we went outside earlier to clear their water off since the water has been frozen. She was sitting under the ramp to the coop and when we went to get her she fell over head-first.
None of the other chickens are acting this way, and I have a total...
if one of my chickens layed a really small fertile egg, do you think it would be a very small chick. Also would it be ok and able to live outside in the winter. It gets pretty cold here
my hen's ears are colored funny and I would like to know if it's a problem I need to look into. She's a very short Cochin. Her legs are very short I don't know if maybe this has to do with anything. She's not very active
id like to know where to get eggs for hatching. I finally convinced my parents to get an incubator(sadly at the death of two almost hatched eggs) and I want some new breeds instead of what I already have. Anyone know where to get good fertile eggs?
I had a chick hatching yesterday and into the night. I went to the coop today looking forward to meeting my third chick of this hatch but she was dead. Drug into the corner farthest from the nest. She was bloody and chewed up. The coop is raised up fairly high from the ground (yes im moving the...
this thread is mostly for fun! I want to cross breed a few chicks and wanted to see how some crosses turned out. All cross breed pictures are welcomed but I would really like to see
Polish X Cochin
Polish X Cochin
Polish X Wyandotte
Polish X naked neck
Cochin X Wyandotte
Cochin X naked neck...
i have a mixed flock with cochins, a Wyandotte, a polish, and naked necks. I want to know who layed to egg on the right. It's compared to a Cochin egg (left)
i have two frizzled Cochins, two regular Cochins, and one Cochin who was supposed to be frizzled but the trait didn't pass on. I want to breed some of them, definitely the frizzled Cochins, but I want to know the chances of breeding a regular Cochin with a frizzled Cochin to get a frizzled...

i have hatched chicks before... Well my hens have hatched them but Id like to know a couple things
1) what if the hen decides not to sit in the eggs after a few days of nesting
2) how warm do the chicks need to be
3) how late is too late for a chick to hatch? I know they can hatch 3 days...
i have a cuckoo maran who is quite fat. There's a bit of fat that sags off her chest and it's bigger than any other chickens I've ever seen. I just need to make sure this is ok.
I have a 9 day old frizzle Cochin bantam and he's the only one out of 6 chicks having this problem. He has poop stuck to his bottom. I've cleaned it off twice before but it keeps happening. I give the chicks pasty butt solution and it works for the rest of the chicks. I don't think he's eating...
i just got 8 more chicks last Friday and when I went out to check on them, two of them were dead. Two of them, that haven't died, act kind of strange. They show little interest in the food and sleep a lot. What's wrong with them
my hen is 4 years old and I found her at the edge of the coop door. She can't walk or stand up, so she just huddles down where ever she manages to flop to. This happen once before over last summer and she wasn't better for about two weeks. I know she isn't egg bound, I've already checked. And...
I'm very worried for my chickens, in the past two weeks, three of my chickens have had various problems. The first one was one of my isa brown hens, who I found in the pen lying on the ground. She wouldn't walk, so I put her in a separate pen just in case. She was like this for nine days, and...
i have a very weak chick who was abandoned in the egg by his two mothers. He hatched three days later, but he is wobbly on his feet and won't eat or drink. He wants to sleep all day and won't follow me when I walk( he thinks I'm his mom). I don't know what to do and I really need help please
i went out to the pen after I got home today, and noticed that one hen was a little odd. She was walking but one wing was dragging across the ground, and the other was hanging a little low. She didn't walk as fast as normal when I came up, and she didn't stay around the other hens like usual...
i LOVE chicks(who doesn't!!), so I figured that o would start my own. Please post some pics!!
The second picture is of Shinbou, which means patience in Japanese, he died, but he thought I was his mama!!
can you tell, in general, the sex of a chick just by watching it? I already have two roosters, so I don't think more would be a good idea, anyone know?
