Hi all.
I was planning to build a coop this past Spring to start a small chicken flock (4-6 birds), but never got around to it (Neither DH, nor I are into building things). I want to buy a quality coop so that I can go ahead get my chickens this next Spring. I don't have any real financial...
I grew up a military brat (although I have family all over the place, Northeast, Southeast, Chicago, California, with Chicago being considered "home."). Anyhow, I've been living in Texas for over 4 years now and tonight I finally took the ultimate plunge. I bought, prepared and ate....Calf...
About how much feed, on average, are you using for flocks of 2-3 chickens?
I'm trying to come up with an average estimate of how much I'd be spending per month on feed (I guess I should throw oyster shell/grit into the equation too).
Thanks.
I am looking for Easter Egger chicks (female only). I live in Irving, TX and would be willing to drive a reasonable distance for them. I am looking for 2.
Thanks.
Originally, I was planning on building my coop and then ordering chicks in February. However, I live in an area where the average low temperature in winter is 35 degrees, which is nothing compared to the North East (or Chicago, where I moved from). Do you think that the chickens would be fine if...
I'm new to chickens and am getting ready to construct a coop. However, I need to figure out what kind of birds would fit best for me. I live in a large suburb of Dallas, TX and have a decent back yard. I only want 2 or 3 birds and would like to them to be on the quieter side for my neighbors'...
I haven't built my coop yet, so I guess anyone who doesn't have a coop is tied for smallest!
Seriously, I'd like to to see small coops (obviously for small little flocks; 2-4 birds I guess would qualify).
I only plan to have 2, maybe 3 birds until I move next year, so this topic is right up my...
I'm trying to collect scrap wood to build my chicken coop and finding it impossible! I have scoured craigslist and replied to ads for free/cheap wood and never get responses. I've even made my own ad with no such luck. DH and I aren't "handy" and don't have old pieces of wood/metal lying around...
Hi.
I'm looking for cheap (or free!) scrap/plywood. I want to start building my first coop, but I'm not the "handy" type so I don't keep those sorts of things around.
I'm in DFW, Tx. Thanks.
I'm drawing up some sketches for a coop and want to put a kind of "mini" run at the bottom (so that the coop is on top, but they can go down the ladder into the fenced in area at the bottom) so that they can still peck around if I have to put them up while I'm away from the house (I plan to let...
I'd like to see pics of coops built by people who aren't very "handy."
I took woodshop and drafting back in Middle school and made an "A." I still have decent drafting skills (I designed my VERY basic chinchilla cage and had DH who is NOT crafty build it---it took FOREVER), but neither DH, nor I...
I'm still researching chickens and coops. I came across this Hencondo which looks perfect for me (well, actually 2 or 3 chickens! ). http://www.henspa.focuspage.com/hencondo.htm
There are no rules in my neighborhood or city about chickens. However, I am renting a house right now until I move...
I'm new and trying to figure out what breed(s) to buy (I want 3 or 4 birds for eggs/pets). I was looking at the breed directory on this site's homepage. I notice that there are two entries for a couple of the birds, specifically the Delaware and Plymouth Rocks. For the PR's one entry says that...
A coworker of mine recently purchased some day-old chicks (back in May, I believe). Of course, she kept them in a box when she first got them. Recently, I realized that she plans to keep the all in her house ( I think she plans to let them out back for a couple of hours each day--supervised)...
I'm thinking that I would like to buy a wooden dog or child's playhouse and modify it into a chicken coop for 3-4 birds.
Pics anyone? I need some inspiration.
Hi, I'm new.
I'm planning on getting 3 or 4 chickens for pets/eggs (still researching the breeds). My question is, what do you all with small herds feed your chickens? I can't imagine buying a 50+lb bag of feed for such a small number of chickens. I plan to feed them chicken feed, let them...
Hi. I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Lytorre. I'm a city/suburb dweller, but am thinking hard about getting a few chickens ( 3 or 4) for pets/eggs. Most of my area allows them as long as you keep them 50 yards away from the neighbors and they aren't roosters. I'm here to do a little...
