I have 3 quail cages that I no longer need. I build these using renegade ridge farms designs and modified them a bit. Shipping would be cost prohibitive, so I'm looking for someone to come pick them up. All three should fit easily in the back of a pick up truck.
This is the first thing...
So, i've noticed in several other posts that a lot of us own our own businesses...I'm wondering how many of us there are, what kind of business you run and how this crappy economy has affected you?
I guess this is kind of a survey, but i also thought it'd be interesting to see what people are...
here's a ramble for those who live on farms/homesteads or are attempting to learn more about becoming self sufficient.....or have a degree in psychology
My wife and i purchased our house with 9.4 acres about 2 years ago....the first year, i didn't really do many projects or improvements....i...
I officially have quail eggs running out my ears, so i've decided to pickle a few (500 or so) and see if i like them or can sell them on craigslist. I've never pickled anything unless you count watching my mom make pickles (oh yeah, i guess my liver might count also:lol:). I was wondering if...
Okay, i wasn't sure where the heck to place this thread, so if this isn't the right place could one of the higher ups shoot me a p.m. and/or move it?
Anyway, I have this HUGE fridge in my basement that would be a real pain to get back out without the use of a sawzall...it killed my dolly when...
I'm assuming this is the best place to post this thread since i'm trying to use the darn thing to seal up my meat birds for the freezer....
Anyway, last night i was trying to seal up some bird pieces and my sealer isn't working like it used to....i've used it hundreds of times over the years...
So, I'm relatively new to processing my own chickens for food...the four I cut up this morning make 7 total that i've cut up myself. Rather than use the scald, pluck, remove guts kinda process i've decided it's easier for me to just skin them, cut off the meat and then remove the innards from...
Even though i didn't technically have them in the same area, some of the younger chickens were able to fit through my fence (or they flew over). Anyway, when my garage door was open they'd come inside and eat the food that the quail managed to flip onto the floor. I never saw one of them on...
Okay, i know that some people out there (probably most) breed their larger quail and eat/sell the smaller ones. Here's what i'd like to know:
Assuming the following
Two adult coturnix (male and female) of unknown background
One weighs 16oz and the other weighs 10 oz
If i hatch eggs from...
So, my neighbor decided he had too many chickens and dumped several in my lot....no problem till the polish crested started to crow! Now i'm trying to find him a new home rather than cook him! He's fairly frendly...usually comes up to me when i'm outside smoking in the morning and gives me...
So, most of my experience has been with coturnix, but i got some tn reds about 1 1/2 months ago. They WERE in the garage outta the elements until last week when i put them outside (hoping that exposure to pre-winter conditions followed by a return to the garage will get them to lay this year)...
Does anyone here use artificial light for their quail? I recently (week ago) added two lights to each of my cages for a (very little) bit of warmth, but mostly to keep the eggs coming all winter long. This works very well with my chickens, but my quail got all confused for a day or two...
Well, I finally caught up on all my ebay orders so now i'm trying to get rid of the last eggs of this season.....I can sell you 5 eggs for $50, 10 eggs for $75 or 100 eggs for $500
I guarantee these guys will reach at least 4 oz after only 8 weeks! I have proof (purty pictures) and even a...
Well, not really...I almost posted under the "beware of people selling super duper coturnix eggs" thread, but i think this one deserves its own....
Is there anyone here who has raised coturnix (even in tx) to a full pound? If so, was it just a fluke or did/do you do it consistently? Also...
First of all, i wanted to take a min to thank EVERYONE who took the time to answer the original post!!! I got a lot of good feedback/answers that helped me prepare. It's really nice to have a place where people care enough to take a few minutes of their day to help others out
Well, here's...
I raise coturnix quail for eggs and meat, but was recently offered 1/2 a table at a reptile convention to sell my eggs and maybe some quail chicks for reptile food. These eggs are fertile, non-hatching (refriderated). I tried to get some answers about which animals could safely eat them.....I'm...
I read a couple posts on here about people taking plans to their "builder". I'm just wondering what these builders charge to make your cages....flat rate, hourly or by the square foot?
Any builders on here feel free to chime in....
So, i posted this pic a few days ago in a thread about cage design and i have gotten alot of questions about the "poop catcher" underneath...
The poop catcher is made of 55 gal barrels cut in half lengthwise with another section placed in the middle to make it long enough (7'4") and screwed...
