Are some chicken breeds hardier than others? I seem to have selected the fragile breeds.
After a year of my new chicken keeper hobby, I have lost a Brahma and a Wyandotte.
My Swedish flower hen recovered from a broken pelvis, recovered once from a bought of vitamin Deficiency and is sick again...
After a year of no eggs with 10 girls, I found a layer feed that was 22%. Feed store guaranteed egg laying with this feed. I am also added layer mash.
Could this be causing havoc in the reproductive system? Is it too much? After 3 months I am having egg yolk peritonitis and egg binding...
Does anyone know where I can get Starter Pullets that lay Blue Eggs?
My Easter Egger lays beautiful green eggs, I was hoping for blue.
Anyone near Birmingham Alabama or anyone willing to ship?
Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
I have a hen that has a spur curving upward to her bootie. I want to remove it so roosting will be more comfortable for her.
Could someone more experienced give me more details on the potato method. I don't want to hurt her.
I read to pierce hot potato with spur and twist off. Is it really...
Does anyone know winter flowering plants are ok for chickens to eat, i.e. petunias, pansies, violets, hellebore, mums, jasmine, calendula, sweet alyssum. . . ???

I have found a list of things you can give your chicken and a list of things NOT to give your chicken. No mention of Pomegranate seeds. Are Pomegranate seeds a Yes or No?
I am worried about my Swedish Hen. She has green runny poo and sits a lot. She seems to be lethargic and stayed on the roost this morning.
Last night I had to wash the poo off her back end while she sat in the warm water. I work full time and don't know if she is eating or drinking. Very...
I am reading that many people know which hen is laying and which one is not. I have 6 SF that are 6 months old. Since they were 16 weeks, I have found a large oblong shaped egg outside the coop, a tiny jelly bean size egg and a soft shelled egg in coop. I have no idea who laid them. Now, I...
My girls are now 21 weeks. At 16 weeks one of them laid a huge, oddly shaped egg, outside the coop on the ground. Today, 5 weeks later, I found a tiny egg the size of a jelly bean in the nest box. It was so funny looking next to the big huge honker of an egg. Why would she drop a huge egg...
I have read that they stop laying if they get too many table scraps or treats. I have 4 bantams that were giving me 3-4 eggs a day and now 0-1 a day. Should I go back to 0 treats?
Also, I read that too much fruit or lettuce will make runny stools. I have cut back completely on lettuce and...
This is my sweet Wanda. The first time I noticed her running into the fence and not able to find her way around, I trimmed her crest, but, It looked awful. This time I am using a small rubber band that she hates and the other girls are pecking at her now. I still had to trim the hair...
Just started free ranging my 19 week hens only about 1 hour a day while I stand by and monitor. My girls found a patch of these berries and ate everything they could get their beak on. They love them. Does anyone know what they are and if it is ok for girls to eat.
Thanks for any advice.
I have a nice size 8X4 coop and a nice size 24X16 covered run for 10 hens but, would like to try free ranging on weekends while I am home with them.
Is it possible to free range while keeping them safe during the day? My only concern are the hawks patrolling the sky above with nests close by...
Is it normal for a new hen to lay one egg and no more? She was 16 weeks old last week when she laid her first egg. Have not seen any more since. Her first egg was beautiful and large and normal looking. She just did not know where to lay it.
I would love to add to my flock, but, the heat is keeping me from ordering anything. I don't think they would make it in the heat. I am waiting until it cools off a bit.
Has anyone had a shipment in the heat? any issues?
