My Hen is about 26wks old, has been laying eggs for about 2wks. Yesterday I noticed that her tail was down a lot, today she has a poopy bum. She is still out free ranging but not as active as the other hens. She did not lay a egg yesterday, but she did lay one this morning. She has laid a...
My hen just started laying over the weekend, but she is not laying in the nesting box. All 3 eggs have been in the same place, on the floor by the hatch door to go to the run underneath. How do I get her to lay in the nesting box? We have golf balls in the boxes right now. Any other ideas?
One of my girls laid her first egg on Sunday. I think it is my white leghorn "pink". I thought something was up when they were all so noisy that morning. I put some Cayenne pepper in their feed on Friday and by Sunday we had an egg! My kids were so eggcited! They couldn't believe it.
The...
We are re-homing our rooster today. We put him in a box late, late last night with food, but no water. The guy who is taking him, won't get him home until about 4:00 today. Is that too long without water? The other thing is we are supposed to put him in the back of his truck until he get...
My chickens are 17-18weeks old. The feed store has Purina and also Farmers Warehouse feed. The Farmers Warehouse has a 16% and also a 20% lay pellet. Is there one that is better then the other? Also, what is the difference between pellet and crumble, if they have been on crumble will it be...
Here is our backyard flock, they are now about 13-14 weeks old. We have been hearing suspicious sounds form the coop this week. My DH was out there today and all of them were out of the coop, except one, he said it was either the light tan or the reddish color one when he heard what sounding...
I have 6 almost 8wk old chicks (mostly hens) and am just about out of the Purina Medicated Chick Start. Should I buy another bag or should they move onto a different type of feed?
Thanks!

Can you please help me with breed and if they are a hen or Roo---they all "suppose" to be hens. Argh, i am feeling so dumb right now!

We have 6 5or6wk old chicks, and we are giving 3 to my grandmother. We have the chickens for the eggs. So based on Egg production which would you keep
1 White Leghorn
2 Welsummers
1 Maran or Barred Plymoth Rock
1 New Hamshire Red
1 Buff Orpington or Brown Leghorn
So, this is 3rd time I am posting pictures, the chicks are now about 5 or 6 weeks old. Cluck- Cluck is my daughters chicken and if ti turns out to be a ROO it has to go. I have tried to prepare her based on previous responses.
Do you think this is a Buff Orpington--did I spell that right?
Our chick are about 6 wks old, and are currently using the cheap water and feeders. I am having to change their water about twice a day, and they keep knocking over their feeding container. Any ideas or recommendations.
If they empty their feeding dish twice a day should I keep filling it...
Here are some new pictures of our chicks.. they are about 4 weeks old.
Now that they are a little older can you help us know what breed they are. They are all supposed to be girls, do you see any Roo's in the bunch?
Cluck-Cluck--the friendliest of the bunch. Her legs are a gray color is that...
Our chicks are about 21 days old (some older). They look like they have most of their wing feathers. They are getting crowded in the tupperware box that they are in, and every time we take the gate off the top to change the water or food, they try and jump out. Anyway, the coop is done is it...
We are almost done with the frame of our coop, we decided on a 4x6, with the run underneath of it for a smaller footprint. We (I) am hoping to add onto the run in the near future. We are trying to decide what to do for the roof . My husband wants metal, but I thought I read something about...
On my previous post I had asked about the cost of A frame style coop. I have been looking through the coop designs, and love some of the box style coops. Are the box styles more practical, do they function better then a A-frame? The chickens will free range some, but for the most part will be...
HI everyone, I am new to this forum, we just got 3 baby chicks last week. We are now working on a coop design. We live in the city on a smaller lot.
We are thinking of building a A- frame design but would like to do it for under 200.00 is it possible? Any tips or advice, I would love to see...
