Video of one of my chickens

from this thread.... https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1148255/2-chickens-down-mareks Here is a video of the chick that started limping last night, now his foot is looking odd, and all balled up, and he can't walk. The foot wasn't like that before last night. This chick has been running...

    2 chickens down, Mareks?

I'm not sure what is going on with this new little flock, at this point I'm leaning towards Mareks :-( ....? Chicks hatched Nov 26. I kept them inside until December 27th when I moved them to my outdoor coop. I didn't have any other chickens in there, I had passed on my old girls that weren't...

    Moving chicks outside

I have 11 chicks that I'm about ready to move to my outdoor coop. They are 4 weeks and 4 days old. They are fully feathered except they have some downy feathers on their butts. I've kept them in the garage since they were hatched. We live in San Diego, and my outdoor thermometer says it's been...

My hens have completely stopped laying. I'm so confused.

I have 5 hens. Three of them I hatched out of our incubator in November. They started laying eggs in May. We were getting 2-3 eggs a day for about a month. Then one of my hens went broody. She stopped laying eggs completely, and the others slowed down as well. Then we were only getting about 1...

I think there's a rooster in the hen house :-(

I'm 99% sure these guys are roosters. I feel so dumb, I pulled out the roosters at 7 weeks, and these guys looked like hens. So for the past months, I haven't had any thought that they might be roosters, until I heard crowing from the back yard last week! Any thought about breed?

Gender (and breed would be nice) help on these 7 chicks please?

It was so easy to sex the last chickens we had. This bunch I'm having trouble with. They all sort of pick on each other but 1, which made me think I had all roosters and only one hen. But they are 5 weeks and 1 day now, and by looks, I'm thinking I only have a few roosters . I have 7 chicks...

Chick that's been hatching for 3 days?

I have one chick that pipped on Monday night. We could hear it cheeping and everything seemed fine. All the other eggs pipped and hatched yesterday. There was no progress on that egg yesterday, I thought maybe the chick died. This morning the egg was cheeping, and there was more of the shell...

Noisy chicken and can I introduce a new chicken to my exisiting flock?

Are some chickens just noisier than others? My chickens are a little over a year old. We raised them from chicks, and they are sweet and lay lots of eggs. But they are getting really really noisy. I'm sure it's driving my neighboors crazy, because it's driving me crazy! They squak for at least 2...

We lost a chicken today :-(

I'm so sad. We had a crazy heat wave today, it was at least 103, probably hotter. It came out of nowhere, last week was chilly. The poor chickens were panting when I came home this afternoon. I sprayed the coop down, put bags of ice in the coop, and put more water and ice in their waterer. But I...

    Really noisy chickens

My chickes are so gosh darn noisy! They've been laying for about 2 weeks now, and in the mornings they are crazy loud for about 3-4 hours. They stop if I come over and sit by the coop, but obviously I cant' do that every day. Are everyone elses chickens this loud?

    Feathers everywhere!

I'm getting tired of feathers all over my backyard. I have 5 chickens in a 50 sq foot run and a 30 sq foot coop. They've been on layer crumbles for several months now. I sprinkle DE in the run and coop every week or so. They get kitchen vegi and fruit scraps every day. They don't fight, and seem...

How do you feed kitchen scraps?

I've been just tossing kitchen scraps in the run. But these girls either make such a huge mess with the scraps or ignore them completely, LOL. It's making a big mess in the run. Is there a better way to give them vegi and fruit scraps?

My chickens won't eat anything but feed

My chickens are 10 weeks old. I've been trying to give them kitchen scraps, but they won't eat them. Don't chickens usually like fruits and vegis,LOL? I keep the feeder full all the time. Maybe I should take it out every once in a while?

The coop is nearly done! Too much ventilation??

My coop is nearly done! I started with a $25 dollar dog house from Craigslist. I sawed, drilled and painted and now we have this... I drilled small ventilation holes all around the top sides and back. I added 2 hardware cloth vents on the upper sides. I added a roost, pop door and a...

    All hens?

I seperated roosters from hens. It was pretty obvious who the roosters were and you guys helped with my "round one" post on Monday. But before someone comes to pick up the roosters in a half an hour, can someone be sure I grabbed all hens to keep, LOL?! ETA they will be 5 weeks on Friday.

If you can't stand up in your run, how do you clean it out?

All this time I've been trying to figure out how to build a run, I was thinking it had to be tall, so I could stand up in it. After browsing coop pics, I see lots of runs that are only 3-4 feet tall. How easy or difficult is it to clean out a run like that?

What's the absolute easiest way to make a run?

DH is so busy, he has no time to help me. I think I could use a saw to make a few cuts, but I've only used one a hand full of times. I bought a dog house that's converting very nicely to a coop, but I'm stuck on the run. I really want a run with a door that's tall enough for me to walk in, but...

What gender are we? Round 1

I have 14 chicks that I need help identifying. They were 4 weeks old on Friday. We are only keeping 4, so I need to figure gender out so we can give the other 10 away. Here are the first 5. #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 I think this is the only girl of the bunch that I have here. But I'm just a...

Why does everyone hang the water and food from a rope?

Is there a reason that I see so many coops with the feeders hanging from a rope?
