I noticed today that my tiny white silkie has little red mites on her head.its too cold to give her a bath.. I dusted everyone and the coop but was wondering if the cold would kill the mites??
I have had a feather here, a few more there, a handfull here and today EVERYWHERE....feathers from most of my flock.. never had any molt so im wondering if thats what they are doing NOW...
will they molt this time of year? no one is " naked " yet but if this keeps up they will be .. poor dear's
I see a lot of pics with really nice looking birds, most have nice bright red faces. mine do not.. im wondering if they are missing something in their diet? they are pretty healthy but have kinda a flakey thing going on there cambs and waddles..

Wehn she first started laying they were AWESOME..nice shells..really dark and firm. now all she lays (when she lays) is these really soft eggs.they almost always break open whenyou grab them.. sometimes she will lay two at a time. is she missing something in her diet. they have the oystershells...
this old storage shed has been an eye sore for almost 25 yrs.. we've almost torn it down a million times...filled it with all the old misc junk your hubby wont throw out... you know the story!

we're in a heat wave ( index's of 110 ) and my poor girls look sooo unhappy. I have two fans out there and we keep frozen water bottles in the water'ers...aside from putting in a window A/c unit...

Were getting ready for our first go at showing chickens , next week is the 4-H fair and the kids are super excited to show their chickens. we have washed and fluffed and scrubbed the combs/waddles. They look great, im just wondering if we need to do anything else to give them that winning edge...
The dog pulled her thru the fence...the dog has been diggin under trying to get out...she was in shock,is limping falling over and panting.she is in the cool area isolated with water and some food.when I looked closly I can see the puncture marks on her poor little body.she is just 15 weeks...
The bird in question was hatched the first week of march so is about 15 or 16 weeks old...Does not act like a roo but kinda has long looking saddle feathers?I did have two roos hatched the same day that were crowing and acting very roo-ish.. they were re homed already...

Im really REALLY hoping they are ALL the same breed? I have only one roo and he's a BLRW splash and I have a splash hen an a blue hen....I'm thinking maybe "someone else" laid her egg in the BLRW run cuz one chick looks really different than the others..anyone have an idea what they are ?.

Soooo secited..its day 20 and they are all 4 peeping! ! Under my broody silkie are my first BLRW eggs out of my splash roo and my blue hen....they are from fowlys ...pics to come asap..
