My albino chukar and white Bobwhites have started hatching..... I have 23 white bobs that look viable and looks like most will hatch. Several have already hatched and I needed to air lift the first wave out of the bator. They were assaulting a chukar that was taking longer to hatch than the bobs... -
Quail Egg Cartons for Larger Eggs...
I just found out that James Marie Farms now carries 24 egg plastic cartons for the larger sized quail eggs.... These are for the nice big eggs that wont fit in the small cartons.... The eggs shown are 14 gram and larger. Sounds like they are sold in lots of 100, 300 or case.... Very reasonable... -

Valley quail
Hey all, Got a friend, Daren, that ended up with some valley quail. We get cold as a witches mammary here in the winter. These gonna be OK in the Kansas winters? I know they need to be protected from the wind, rain and snow. But the -20 to -30 wind chills on -10 to -15 nights is kinda spooky... -

Well I just unplugged my brinsea and turner for the first time since mid-may. I'v ran several staggered hatches. Some for me , some for friends. Have'nt sat down a figured how many chicks hatched but the % has been high... Did do a count of total eggs set thou, 254 total, 72 chukars, the rest... -
Birds HOT!
Its been 100+ heat index for 2 weeks or better now. I have lost no birds yet, knock on wood, but they are suffer'n. Ice water and fans can only do so much. Stand around pant'n like a dog... Hows your birds handle'n this heat wave? Anybody lost birds to the HOT? Bill -

Bobwhite outside the pen...
I was mowing the grass yesterday, when to my surprise one of my half grown Georgia Giants roos ran out of the grass just ahead of the mower... He ran for 20 ft or so and took flight for another 20' or so, and landed back near the quail pens. He then scooted off into the field behind my house... -
Just unplugged my Brinsea eco 20...
Well its been 3 months since my Brinsea eco 20 has been unplugged. I moved the last batch of Butler bobs to the hatcher Wednesday for lock down. I ran a LOT of eggs thru it and it has been flawless. Net results to date... 50 Georgia Giants from Tennessee , all but 13 glowed @ 10 day candling, 9... -
Quick Change In Weather....
Yesterday was in the mid 60 here in my part of Kansas. The day before that was 71. I had a group of 6 week old Georgia Giants living in the shop. My bator must be running hot....
I set 21 eggs at 6 am the 5th, locked them down in a cooler bator\\hatcher yesterday. I just went in to eyeball'em a bit and could count 11 pips. While I'm all fired up about new fuzzy butts, my timing is just a bit off. Brooders ready and I got my popcorn and all, But still.... -
Pinioned my first birds today....
I did the search deal and read up on the tutorial about pinioning quail. I then talked a friend into help'in me stretch wings out. It went alot better than I thought, for the birds I mean. They are just over 2 weeks old and didnt seem to be phased by the process. They were the normal geeked...
