I just wanted to share some happenings on my little backyard farm. Muscovy hen and Maran hen sharing a nest, a broody little cochin and a speckled hen and her roo watching over her as she lays an egg. :)
We started to notice her limping so we separated the boys but she wasn't getting better. She takes every opportunity she can to sneak into our laundry room so we set her up a nice area in there to let her rest. She still wasn't putting weight on her leg, I felt her leg and joints but nothing...
My BF's favorite little hen is sitting on some eggs. He doesn't think she is safe where she is at. If we try moving her nest to a better location will she stop sitting on them?
I think I want to start building birdhouses........since I don't have any more room for more chicken coops! Does anyone else here make birdhouses? Any pointers or special tools I need?
I am trying to look at the chicken tractors in the coop design section but I cannot see any of the pictures? Is it just my computer? Can anyone see them?
So I recently got a hamster from the local pet store and I want to build her an awesome cage with tubes. Where does everyone get there tubes and can I house more than one Teddy together?
I am not sure how long she has been sitting but in the last couple days I havent noticed her coming out to eat or get water. Does this mean its getting close to them hatching? Should I put water and food near her?
My incubator got knocked over and the 4 eggs got cracked....three had pipped. THey are peeping?!! Do I assist in hatching or wait it out? I dont want them to die!!
I went to throw my eggs out since nothing was happening and found a pip. I put it back into the incubator and it pipped a little more, now it isn't doing anything? I broke a little piece of the shell off and where it had externally pipped was kind of yellow.....
does this look ok or should I...
So I had 8 eggs under 3 broody hens, I have gone out off and on yesterday and today to check for babies. Didn't hear or see anything. Just went out to check and found a dead baby chick in the run and all 3 hens were out. Checked on the remaining eggs and there were only 4?! So I picked them up...
Ugh I was excited until I watched the candling videos and saw obvious movement.....now I am kinda bummed but I am still hopeful that I am just not candling right or with a good enough flashlight. Nothing smells in the bator so I guess I will just wait and see.
