Hi there
I have 24 Red star Layers and in my other coop I have White Silkies
I would LOVE to have a few Polish Frizzles hens. I have looked all over my area and cannot find anyone who has them, knows of anyone etc...
I would also be interested in other Frizzle breeds as well.
Would also be...
4 weeks ago I had a chicken go broody on me (under a year old red sex link)
I put her in the penelty box for 48 hours with food and water and she joined the others and all was fine. She wasn't laying though.
Then a week later I found her dead under the roost ??????? I checked her over, no...
I have two silkie hens that went broody, they hatched chicks and I hatched chicks in the bator? So the chicks are all the same age (8 weeks now)
I tried to integrate the bator chicks with the hen's chicks...with the two mothers. At first it seemed to be ok, and then I caught the mean mother...
I got 11 red sex links in April. All laying brown beautiful eggs.
I got 13 more red sex links in July and 9 to 10 of them are laying now, but I am getting this from one of the hens.
Why are they white?
????
Two broody Silkie hens hatched some chicks
we hatched some from the same clutch in the incubator
When we saw the mother hens out in the yard with their chicks we felt bad for the 3 in the brooder and thought we could integrate them...chicks all the same age.
When we put them down with the...
I have two silkie hens with their chicks separated from the rest of the flock. How long till I can let them all free range together again?
The chicks are less than a week old

We have 8 chicks hatched on Wed Thurs (Day 21)
today is day 24 and 2 eggs left.
I candled and there is no movement.
I cracked one open at the air space and looked in and dead.
The second one I cracked...same way...blood
Then the chick started moving. I have put it back in the incubator...
I have two hens sitting on a couple of eggs hatching (I took away the infertile ones last night) Day 22.
I have a 1 week old chick in the brooder
two day olds in the brooder with her
two in the incubator drying off
two eggs left to hatch.
The 3 in the brooder are my kids pets, but wondered if...
I had 1 out of 4 hatch last week, stole some eggs from the broody (who has a chick as of yesterday)
today in the incubator found these two when I came home from the market.
Both parents are white silkies....is the darker one considered a white silkie? Not sure how the colouring works...
My 2 hens are broody and sitting on 11 eggs between them.
The previous clutch I took 8 eggs to incubate in hopes of getting 2 chicks (one for each of my daughters)
problem is, only one egg has hatched (still only on day 20) but for some reason I am having no hope for the remaining eggs.
I...
Just wondering because I have new ready to lays coming on Wednesday and once they climatize they will move in with the other chickens and wondering when I can move the chick (s)?
no rush of course because we love having them in the house
SHE..and we are saying SHE because that is what we hope...is doing well...sleeping, eating, drinking and pooping...life is grand, but if I only had a friend
3 more eggs in the bator, only on Day 20....but getting this sinking feeling as I saw ZERO movement on Day 18 candling *shrug*
I want to make sure I am doing this right.
a single chick, her egg mates are not due to hatch till tomorrow (she was taken from a broody, so was about 2 days ahead of the other eggs)
She is in the brooder with her food, water, mirror and a little stuffy, and a folded facecloth (cause I am not...
Our little silky hatched yesterday while we were out. When we got home she was still attached to the egg by a tiny red thread of *something* She was trying to walk around and was dragging the egg, so we cut it. The piece is still attached today. I just took some warm water and tried to...
I went out to tuck all my chickens in and realized we are nearing Day 14 with the broody hens and I haven't candled them since about Day 5?
Anyway...out of the 11 eggs I saw 9 fertile ones with lots of bouncing around movement (way more movement than I saw with with incubator eggs)
Anyway...
Last night was lock down, as I was turning the eggs for the last time I noticed a pip mark. I immediately put water in the dish with sponges and shut the lid.
This morning the pip mark was bigger, by lunch a few little bits of shell gone, then we had to head out for a few hours...got home at...
Came home to this sight! Twitter hatched and is looking good.
Her egg mates are not due to hatch till Tuesday...when do I take her out and put her in the brooder??? I don't have any vent holes in my homemade incubator...is she ok in there till she puffs out? Anything I need to do?
