I have 5, and I've had them on chick starter 20% protein.
they've seemed to be doing okay but I just read I'm supposed to feed them higher protein.
I don't have a higher protein available.
should I add meal worms or something to their daily ration?
I just came across these and was not...
so it hatched in the night and was unfortunately stuck upside down for a long period of time.... so for a while I couldn't get him to right himself.
I put him in a sock and he is now staying up right but he's pushing his legs straight out in front of himself and can kind of move around but...
so I want to wait until tonight to take out the hatched chicks... but that will be in the 48 hr range. It feels like a long time for the first little one to be in the hatcher. will it be okay?
I know they say 24-72 hours after hatch they're fine without food and water but that's a huge...
I just want to make sure I'm being reasonable here....
What would you pay for a purebred Dorking Rooster and no one in the area was giving any away for free? $15? especially if the person was not really willing to sell as they were keeping the bird for meat?
How about year old hens...
I have 5 cockrels that I'm growing for food, each night I put them in their little house and each day I let them out to free range. Last night or early this morning, 4 of them ganged up on one. Nearly killed him, so I'm nursing him but cleaning the wound and hopefully he will be okay and still...
I have one very large, but not very aggressive Muscovy Drake, Elvis.
He's got 4 hens, but I was hoping to add another blood line by introducing another Drake.
So far, no luck. All of the times I've tried introducing new hens or drakes, all have died. the ones that are born here, thrive...
I gave my one hen a chicken spa but when I went to massage her there was no egg mass...
does this mean she may have something else wrong?
TIA :)
Henny Poo Poo in her Chicken Spa (aka Laundry Basket Prison)
I got 5 muscovies from a neighbour. We quickly dispatched to our freezer 3 of them because 4 males and one female is not good! Anyway... I wanted more, so I located another small flock about an hour away from us, they all had blue eyes :) So i thought great! different bloodlines... awesome...
so, i got these 5 ducks... only ONE is a female so I think I'll be butchering soon or I will have to find another female so I can keep two breeding pairs.
ANYHOOOO
They were in a tiny pen, a muddy shallow "pond" and with too many other ducks, muscovies and others. So I took them home where...
We hatched 4 of our own chicks a couple months back....
One died in my arms and one had a hard struggle with curly toes and being smaller. We gave him vitamins and sugar water and nursed him back to strength, made him little booties and his feet straightened out and we named him peeps cause...
we put them on when he was a day old and they've been on for a day....
Also the other chick got pasty butt and we've been cleaning them off and they are seeming to do fine... we put cider vinegar in the water so hopefully that will help. We are putting olive oil on their bums too.... Is there...
he's walking on his whole legs because his feet are all curled up.... we put him in the brooder just now because I thought he would get better grip and his feet might un furl if he could get better grip....
any ideas?
OUr first baby hatched this morning. he peeped for a long time and had 1-2 second naps ... now he just seems pooped out and I don't want to take him from the incubator quite yet.... he's sleeping a lot more now. I'm sure it's normal but I just want some reassurance. and maybe some pointers on...
We have no way to measure the humidity..... they've started to hatch.... i hear cheeping from one mostly and theres a hole in that egg and cracks in two more. How can I tell if they are too dry?
plus we incubated small-ish eggs 'cause we had to kill our rooster due to neighbours and we...
We got 32 chicks and they are a week old. They are all thriving, even the one that we accidentally put the waterer on :o Except one...
She barely has any feathers on her wings like all the other ones. She is sleeping way more than the other ones.... she seems a little lost most of the time...
He seems to be fine, he drank and ate
is there anything we can do to make sure he will continue to be fine?
Can we ward off a chill, just in case? And how would we do that?
