We just got rid of our last chicken, so now the push is on to get our house ready to to be put on the market. Has anyone had an issues selling a house with a chicken coop? Or Realitors should i take it down? Is it going to take away from my home value?
14X20 Run, 8x7 coop in shed with plenty...
We introduced 4 egg laying hens into our flock, they are about 2.5 years old and laying great. We already have 9 mix breeds that are 6 months old that we have owned since they were 4 weeks. So when the "new" birds moved in they took OVER, everything, our birds are stuck outside, they are chased...
So our flock of 6 hens was slaughtered over the past 2 days. All attacks happened around 4am. I work a weird schedule so i dont get up till around 12 noon sometimes, so i dont want to keep the chickens locked up for hours and hours till i wake up. So im looking for a diy way to get their door...
Chickens were snowed in before i had to shovel them out. We got drifts around 4 feet and there is no where left to put the snow. At least the chickens got some treats.
This is our coop and temporary coop. The run is made out of a portable hoop garage and we use part of the shed inside for the coop, which will be expanded when the new flock is introduced. The floor of the coop is made with spongy excersize/weight room floor panels, it has held up perfectly...
Ever since Dec. we have bee getting about an egg a day from our 10 chickens. Can i set up a light in the coop to make them lay more? What kind of cycle should it be on? We get into 20's sometimes at night but mainly in 30's and around 40 or so in the day. I noticed on the last few warm days we...
We just picked up 9 more chickens a few weeks ago. The chicks are now about 2 months old and one of them is being picked on to the point of bleeding and losing feathers. We set her aside for a few days in her own area. Then reintroduced her to her "friends" and they began to pick on her...
I found out a co-worker buys chicks in winter and they lay during summer and fall, then in end of fall they sell the hens and get new babies. She doesnt like to have during during winter in Mass. We plan to keep the chickens for 2 laying seasons.
So what is everyone else turn over time with...
We got an egg today that weighed 3.30 oz, it wont even fit in the egg carton. We average around 1.80-2.0 oz per egg, except for the hamburgs which are around 1.25oz.
Anyone get any big eggs like that?
I hope the bird is ok
We let the chickens out of the run last saturday and they did great except for 1 bird, who flew into the forest, back out and on top of the run, over the run, then flew back over, then flew into neighbors yard, finally back into the woods for a few more hours untill we got her back in the run...
What does everyone else use for the flooring in the coop? We have been using wood shavings but they dont seem to be breaking down enough to use in the garden and we are not going to pick through for the poop. Plus the mice are living and breeding inside our compost area and that is causing more...
:cool:We went to get 3 hamburg's and ended up getting this mystery bird also. The people thought it was some kind of "chinese chicken"?
I will try to get better pictures.
So we added 4 more chickens to our flock bringing total to 13, they are all in the run together now, huddled in their seperate groups. Anything else we can do to make the transition better? Will the new ones find their way inside tonight or will they need coaxing? The new ones are about a month...
We are using a portion of our shed for the coop. I JUST spotted a mouse and some mouse poop in the nesting box. Chickens will be going permiently into the coop in a week.
Do i need to take the mice out? or what? Will they harm the chickens in anyway? I checked for holes in shed and found none...
What is the ideal space between the perch in front of the nest and the nest its self? Our nests are 8 inches off the ground and 24 inches. I put a perch in front of nest so they could hop up there. How far should the nest be from the perch?
So they are 6 weeks old now. This one has the longest tail by far out of all of them. It is a Easter Egger. It doesnt sound like our other chicken, when clucking it sounds more strangled and not as high pitch. Do the Easter Egger male and female color differ? Do they sound different then other...
