Just curious. I have a BLRW roo and some SFH gals. Has anyone had some chicks with this combo? I would imagine the colors could potentially be quite fascinating.
Ordered a few SFH and Welsummers from Meyer and needed more to meet the shipping minimum so I just had them do so from their "brown egg layer assortment". Any ideas on what these babies might be? Buckeye? I'm at a loss.
I have a few of them... And clearly, the second chick was quite perturbed...
Found a ginormous egg a few days ago. All I could think of when I first saw it was "OWWWW!!!!
I knew it was a double yolker for sure, but was really surprised to find this:
It seems to have been a soft shell, but I'm confused on the order of how things happened. Was the soft one formed...
I do have to throw a "silly meaties" pic in too!
I'm leaning towards roo:
Barred rock? Boy/girl? Kind of in between sizes on the comb compared to an obvious roo and an obvious pullet of same type and age:
This was the obvious roo before passing away:
Boy/girl?
I think GLW? Leaning...
What is/was he? (Unfortunately, he died this morning due to as yet undetermined illness. But I digress...)
Certainly not the barred rock that the farm store identified!?! I'm curious because we have some girlies with the same markings.
About 12 weeks and lots of copper green/blues coming in...
Tonight, my son peeked under the coop and found our 10-11 week Roo hunkered down. I reached towards him and he didn't move, so ended up using a board to scoot him over enough to pick him up. He didn't react at all except to open and close his eyes slowly. His legs were curled underneath and for...
I went on a trip this past week and DH kept an eye on the chicks and our turkey. Unfortunately, the chicks were up to no good, and he came home to major carnage Monday night. He tells me there was almost a freezer full of chicken that night when he saw what they did to the poor turkey:
I...
We are some very happy chicks! Mama moved us into our new home today! There is so much room to run around and flap our wings!
Mama says it's been really cold outside (45 F) and she was really worried about leaving us all alone this afternoon. But we had fun! It helped that she brought our...
Did a brooder cleaning tonight and then took some pics. Funny stuff going on in there tonight!
This one couldn't seem to get satisfied with its fluffing and kept re-doing it.
And again...
And again...
These guys have become best buds this past week. Every night, my baby gold laced...
I have three Polish chicks and they are not alike in the least! Well, maybe in the skittish department...They are so nuts sometimes!
I was wondering-I have heard that the way the head feathers display might indicate roo/hen. True? If so, what do you think with these?
Seriously. He gobbled yesterday--twice in 15 minutes!!! He's just barely reaching the four week mark now. Of course he's doing the strut and all that now too.
What happened to my baby?
Actually, two chick identifications are needed!
Here's the Polish:
And here's another view, which also happens to have the second one I'm wondering about:
And one more pic (I actually have two of these white feathered friends):
What kind of Polish might this be?
Are the white ones Ply...
Ok. Here's the scoop. We're working on our coop (in our garden). The garden itself is surrounded by a 6' chain link fence, mainly because we have antelope and deer crossing in the area. We'd like to let our chickens roam the garden and help out with the hoppers and other bugs.
The problem? Our...
New here! We started our chicken journey about two weeks ago. Began the coop a week ago, and tonight, finally started to put up some of the outer sheeting. We're hoping to get the whole thing closed in this weekend. Should be possible, weather permitting, since we have two full days where we...
Hello all-
