Let my chickens out today and saw my barred rock pullet limping. Don't think it's a broken leg as she can move around pretty quickly. Just limping. How long does it take to heal? I have no idea why she's limping.
Found a mouse today inside my chicken tractor. I scared it away before closing the coop door for the night. Should I be more concerned about a potential mouse problem? Or is it no big deal? Thanks in advance for any comments.
Let my bantams go out to free range this morning. Just heard some commotion outside and went to investigate. I saw a hawk on my favorite hen. I ran towards it and scared it away, unfortunately she was already dead. Doesn't surprise me that this is the one that was targeted since she was most...
For the last 5 days I noticed no eggs inside the coop. I was getting 1 or 2 eggs a day from my 3 pullets. I then found the place that they decided to lay their eggs while they free ranged during the day. Are these eggs ok to eat? I'm a newbie here and think they're fine, but just thought I'd...
I woke up from a nap after hearing my roosters crowing around 5:00pm. I have 3 cockerals and 3 pullets and they have been free ranging since 9:00am. I looked outside and about 15 feet from my chicken tractor I saw a hawk just standing on the ground. I walked towards it and it flew away...
So back in May I got myself a chicken tractor that I was told could house up to 6 standard sized chickens. Perfect since I was only planning on getting 3 bantam chicks it would be more than enough. 2 weeks later I thought hmmmm... since I have the room I might as well get 2 more chicks and...
Do the pecking orders for roosters change more or less frequently? I have 3 roos and can't seem to tell which one is dominant. One day one is chasing the other two around and another day another one is doing the chasing.
I ask because I may need to get rid of 2 roos since I have 3 roos and...
Dang, after 3 weeks of trying tonight is the first night my 10 week old OEGB's and 8 week old Silver Sebrights are finally in the same coop. Although the 3 OEGB's are on the roosting stick and the 2 Sebrights are in a corner on the bottom, but at least they're accepting them in the same coop...
This is my first month of raising chickens. I was just thinking, with the 4th of July fireworks coming is there anthing i need to do to reduce the stress of my chickens during this time?
What I have:
3 OEGB's at 9 weeks old.
2 Silver Sebrights at 7 weeks old.
Problem:
Been trying slowly for 2 weeks now to get the OEGB's to be ok with the Sebrights in the same coop. I've put them in the same run area and the 2 Sebrights are very much frightened by the OEGB's. They get chased...
Anyone ever have to rehome a rooster and really wanted to make sure that they get a good home and not be on someone's dinner plate? Out of my 5 chicks they are now old enough for me to know which ones are roosters. I have 3 roosters and 2 hens. My problem is they are getting along now, but...
At 7 weeks it looks like 2 of my 3 OEGB chicks are roos. Both have the red comb and one of them actually crowed this morning. They get along ok right now and I'm really liking the both of them. They just play fight every now and then. What are the chances that they will get along as adults...
Hello all, I am brand new to raising chickens and just got 3 OEG bantams about 3 weeks ago. They are now 5 weeks old and are great. I'm looking at getting 2 Silver Sebright Bantam chicks and I was wondering if they'll all get along ok if I put them in the same coop? I believe the Sebrights...
