YAY, my Rouen Shirley just laid her first egg last night. I do have one question though, any clue why she laid first and not Laverne? Laverne is quite a bit larger than Shirley. We assumed she was older. (We got them early Sept. they were born this spring.) From right to left. Laverne...

    What colour are my Silkies?

I think I know the colours, but am very new to Silkies and would love the opinion of someone more experienced. Oh and if you want to suggest names, I would love that too as these three are still without. They were born at the beginning of July/11. The pictures of Silkie #3 will not load, but I...

    Help please. Hurt Rouen

My husband noticed yesterday that one of our Rouen hens was not out with the other ducks, so he went in to their pen to see if she was OK. She was still in their house and when he went to pick her up, she tried to get away but was limping baldy. He put her down with the other ducks and she was...

    Can Silkie pullets have spurs?

I was looking at my 10-12 week old Silkie chicks tonight and noticed what appears to be spurs growing on the one I'm sure is a cockerel. My question is I noticed smaller "bumps" on two of my other chicks, does this mean I have 3 cockerels? That would suck, means I only have 1 pullet.

    Are my banty RIR's gifted?

I have 2 now 9 day old bantam RIR's (my pic) and both flew for the first time yesterday. The one stated to feather on her wings at only 1 day old. These are the first chicks that I have gotten at 1 day old. Is this normal, or are mine gifted? LOL.

Can I eat my birds if I found lice?

Just started to raise birds a few months ago and when I was processing my first roo today I found vent lice on him. I had already taken two roos and don't want to waste them. Are they OK to eat? I washed all the lice away when I was plucking them. I would really appreciate any advice please.
