I have a friend who has a light timer, and she says it makes her chickens lay much better.
Does anyone have this, and how do you like it? Does it really improve laying?
If it works where can I get one and how expensive are they? What kind of maintenance does it need, etc?
Thanks!!
I have several chickens who have floppy combs. There doesn't seem to be a real reason. I thought they may have been dehydrated but they're drinking fine, and after putting electrolytes in their water, they did not improve. I switched feeds, to something much better, Layena Laying Pellets...
What is the best way to control mosquitoes, other than clean water!
I live out in the woods near four or five smallish ponds, not to mention all the unseen puddles in the woods, and a small creek that's typically stagnant 90% of the time.
I've been having a lot of trouble with my chickens...
I've been having horrible trouble with flies these past few weeks. I've tried all kinds of things! I did apple jelly with a hint of soap, fruit juice with a drop of soap, vinegar and fruit juice with a drop of soap, soapy water, and yeast!
I've been catching more yellow jackets, wasps, and...
I'm not sure that this particularly goes under "Flock Management" but it's the closest I could think of.
For the first year and a half of owning chickens my chickens were fine. I had one die of worms but that was just because I didn't know what was wrong with her and thought she was just...
So if you've been reading my thread on the Mareks Cure Trial you know that my roo has Mareks and is unable to stand. He has been doing this for days and is very uncomfortable. I have him in a wire dog crate so it has a hard bottom. I put hay in it but with all his thrashing around to get...
My chicken is emaciated, she's about 4 months old and has never been all that healthy but she is def emaciated. No breast meat at all just bones, even her eye sockets are sunken in. I've been trying to fatten her up but nothing really seems to be working. I've wormed her as well. What are some...
I'm having problems with Marek's at the moment and I'm wondering if I can vaccinate my remaining chickens? They are a few years old to a few months old. I'm also wondering if it is safe to vaccinate again. The lady at the feed store said she didn't know if the chicks that we bought from them...
I have a post that I would really like to stay in view of as many member as possible. It's a research post and I'm hoping that it can give as many people as it can some very valuable information on Mareks. Is there a way I can keep it in view like on the first page or something? Or sticky it?
Not sure if this is where I should post or not but here goes.
I'm interested in killing and eating some of my chickens. I watched a neighbor kill and pluck some roosters we didn't want, I'm good with the whole gutting thing, but the plucking I'm not sure about. My neighbor dunked them in...
Hi everyone,
For several months I have been battling what has just been confirmed as Mareks. I have lost 6 chickens so far and my rooster is currently sick with it. However I had read a thread on here previously about a Mareks cure that I was desperate to try. It said that it could take...
Hi all,
My rooster has been sick for a while he has Marek's and I am slowly nursing him back to health. I gave him a warm soak in epsom salt this morning and decided to give him a good once over to make sure there were no bed sores or anything like that. I checked around his vent area and...
Has anyone every tried it and are you pleased with it. I'm wanting to switch feeds b/c what I currently have is too expensive and not working well. I called the feed stores and this is actually cheaper but I've been hearing about it a lot. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
**** Well...
My hens have had pretty bad calcium deficiency problems for a while. None of them are old and they have oyster shell free choice. I had the brilliant idea of using vitamins instead of oyster shell which doesn't seem to be working. I went to Wal-Mart and bought a bottle of Calcium vitamins. I put...
I thought I would share what I've found out. And it seems to be working very well, and is very easy. My chickens seem to have Marek's so I've been looking for a cure desperately and doing all I can to keep them alive and fighting. Another user posted a cure for Marek's that seems to be working...
I was wondering how well it would pay off to hatch eggs, kind of as a side job. I know it takes a while for them to hatch, plus initial cost and all of that. I also have a question about what hen's are the best layers but can handle warm climates well? I know I'd also need a purebred flock. But...
So I'm pretty sure I have Marek's in my flock which I know would make egg laying decline drastically. But I also think my hens have a calcium deficiency. I've been giving them their eggshells back and they have oyster shells all the time but it doesn't seem to be working very well. I was...
