Hi! I was told my tractor supply chick was a white leghorn but she is getting HUGE and hasn’t started laying yet (4 months old). Could she be a different breed?
Also- I know my darker 2 chicks are Rhode Island reds, but any clue what the lighter 2 are and black one?
Thanks so much!
Hello! After a rough summer trying to hatch, I bit the bullet and purchased 5 white layer ducklings. They are now 10 days old and ADORABLE! It’s been a long time since we we had ducks, and I’m rusty. They’re on non medicated chick feed (pic attached) and have experimented with some treats-...
My white layer duck has been trying to hatch, but and I believe was stuck. She is on day 30. She made one huge hole but couldn’t turn to zip. When I just checked her there was blood on her beak from pecking this pointy spot in the egg. I chipped it back slightly and found she was slightly shrink...
After a terrible first hatch rate, I’m trying again on 12 white layer ducks. I learned a lot this time around:
*Less candling.
*Rotate the eggs throughout the incubator since it has a hot spot.
*Get a second thermometer & hydrometer (any suggestions on brands???) as I think mine might be off...
Hatching duck eggs (I’ve posted a million questions...I know). Day 26 out of 28. My one has been pushing at the membrane for 3 days now and has yet to internally pip. Is that normal? I know they take a long time, but I’m worried it’s not positioned right as it’s been working on the same spot for...
Day 25 with duck eggs. Went into lockdown yesterday due to an early developer. It’s been pushing at the internal membrane for 3 days now. Is this an internal pip????? Not sure if I should do a safety hole since it’s been rocking for 3 days now! Thanks im advance for your help!
Ps. Excuse my...
So I’m left with 4 out 12 shipped eggs. Day 24. Went on early lockdown today because one was rocking and trying to internally pip last night. I upped the humidity and am staying steady around 79% and temp down to 99. My problem is, the other 3 eggs in there are no where near as developed as the...
My duck eggs are on day 24 and I most definitely saw one rocking and trying to internally pip (last night). Lockdown is supposed to be tomorrow- should I go on lockdown early????
Hi all! It’s been awhile since I’ve done a hatch. This summer I’ve got 5 white layer duck eggs in the incubator (started with 12, but lost a few at different stages). They’re shipped eggs and even though I let them sit for 24 hours before putting them in, they’ve got some super wonky air sacs. I...

Hi all! I am a Mom who is hatching with my kids for a summer learning project (plus the fact that they are so darn cute!). 2 summers ago we hatched pekins with a chickubator and had 2 out of 3 success rate. They were overjoyed to have 2 baby ducks for a few months! This summer we are...
My 2 pekins that I hatched are doing GREAT! They are 1 week old today and growing sooooo fast! I have them on unmedicated starter feed. My question, when do I switch their food? Also, when can I start feeding them fresh fruits? And when i do, do I need to cut it up? Thanks so much guys...
I am so happy to have graduated from "incubating and hatching" to the duck board! Yay! I have 1 day old pekins that are doing very well. They LOVE eachother so much and cry when I pick one up. They are eating and drinking on their own (I got the starter food at the feed store, that's okay...
After a long 30 days, our first hatchling is here! It needed a little help getting started, but once I started, he came out on is own and FAST! #2 is still about half way there and I am thinking he will be out by tonight. A huge thanks so iamcurisotycat for all of your advice though this! I...

So it's been 36 hours since the first pip and they have made some progress, but not a ton. There's 3-4 pips in a row, but they still have a long way to go. I emailed the farm I got the eggs from for advice and they said I need the help the ducks out ASAP! he seemed very urgent about it...and...

I'm on day 29 and they pipped around 7 last night and 1 of them made a few more pips shortly after. I even heard chirping. But as of this morning (12 horus later) they haven't made any progress and I don't hear any chirping I know they say ducks are notoriously long hatchers, but is this...
Mine pipped as of last night at 7 and I heard chirping and 1 even pipped a few more times. As of 9 oclock last night I haven't heard any chirping and it hasn't made any more progress. Isn't 12 hours a long time for nothing to happen? Or do they take long breaks like that? I talk to them, but...
Day 28 for my pekins and I came home from work and each of my 2 eggs had a pip! When I started talking to them I saw one of them make a second pip and it started chirping! I am BEYOND excited and hoping that all continues to go well! For my duck experts, how long do they usually take from pip...
