I have a BR that just started laying, she is about 24or 25 weeks, but her eggs are white. Will they get brown as she ages?
They also are more elongated than my other pullets.
What would attack a chicken in broad daylight? Something carted off one of my chickens from the yard at 3 in the afternoon. Pulled out her tail feathers and some from around her neck, but never broke the skin. I heard something moving in the woods and run out there and there she was trying to...
I started my coop as many of the rest of you have. My coop will be 8x12 when finished and I'll be able to move it if I need to.
Here are the supports for underneath.
The bottom runner is 8' with the ends cut at an angle. The 4x4 uprights are 14.5". Then a 2x6 at the top with a 2x12...
I have decided on my coop size 8' x 12', and that I am going to use a shed roof that slopes from 8' to 6'. Will leaving the eaves open be enough overhead ventilation?
I will have one window on the East and West side. My bigger question is should I have two windows on the South side or I was...
I bought a chick that said it was a gold sex link. It looked just like all the other chicks in the bin, but now that it is getting some feathers it doesn't look like any pictures I can find.
Here is a pic of her wing. If you can give me any ideas it would be great.
Thanks
Steve
I have my coop design decided upon, but I am still wondering which will be better to protect my chickens hardware cloth or metal lathe? The link will show what the lathe looks like...
Which would be better, Exterior grade plywood with several coats of paint or T1-11 siding with several coats of paint? Trying to figure out what to use on my coop.
I want to make an 8x8 coop on skids that will be high enough off the ground for my hens to get under. I was originally thinking of two skids placed about two feet in from the outer edge and the bottom of the outside 2x6 framing for the floor about 12 inches above the ground. The hens would have...
Will OSB hold up well if it has a good coat or two of paint? Would I be better off using plywood? I would have to paint either way since the plywood wouldn't be treated. Also should I enclose the interior walls? I live in Southeast Missouri so I shouldn't have to insulate should I?
Thanks
Steve
I'm in the planning stages for my new coop. What roof is better a traditional peaked roof or a slanted roof? Which one would provide the best ventilation? I'm planning on using metal for the roof. Feel free to ask questions if you have any.
Thanks
Steve
I know many people use metal roofs on their coops. When you do do you fasten it right to the rafters or on top of some osb or plywood?
What advantage/disadvantage would there be to just fastening to the rafters?
Has anyone thought about using expanded metal instead of hardware cloth for predator proofing? It would be a heavier gauge (thickness) at a slightly higher cost.
It has recently been confirmed that I have two roos. Disappointing since I bought my BR from a pullet run. http://photobucket.com/slatpics I'm wondering will I have to split these guys up down the road or will they get along ok since they have been raised together?
I have some chicks I got this spring. One is a Barred Rock the other is a RIR. The RIR is 13 weeks the Rock is 12 weeks. I thought both were female, but my Rock was doing a poor attempt at crowing this morning. I have an older Buff Orp and spent a little time trying to introduce them this...
