Anyone have any guesses about the genders of my silkies? I have one that is a confirmed female, but she's older than these guys. I don't really know how old these ones are now.
Terk - pullet? I sure hope so. (Clucks instead of peeps now!)
Halyn
Kiara (Simba?) - this one beats the others...
I regretfully inform everyone that another of my silkie chicks is coming down with whatever it was that Charmin died from.
His name is Phoenix. He can't stand or walk, and wont eat or drink. Just like Charmin, it came on very suddenly.
I'm force feeding him egg yolk and electrolyte water...
I have 5 silkies and a silkie x serama cross that I want to live together, but they're having aggression problems. I don't know all of their genders yet. Some of these pictures are old, but I don't have more recent ones at the moment.

One of my baby silkies is sick! She's lethargic, wont open her left eye, and wont hold her head up! I found her laying lifelessly in the food dish with her head hanging out and thought she was dead! We cant take her to a vet right now, dad's at work and we only have one car.
Please help!!
They're still young, about 12-13 weeks I think..but Halyn seems to hold her tail higher and is feathering out slower than the other two, is that a male thing?
Terk
Charmin
Halyn
My (bearded?) silkies are growing up! Its kind of bittersweet - I love watching them grow up, but its difficult knowing if more than one are males, the extras must be rehomed
Here's Terk, my favorite of the bunch and a suspected cockerel (without much evidence to go by - simply guessing)...
Mom got me some baby bantam silkies, but we don't know how old they are.
Anyone have an idea?
Also, how long should we have them eating chick food instead of adult food? I heard that silkies grow slower than other breeds?
This seems to be the summer of the peepers! I finally got polishes, our geese hatched some goslings, and now mom just surprised me with 3 silkie babies!! 2 splashes and a white, just like I wanted! <3
- Charmin
- Halyn
- My favorite one, Ikaika
My mother has instructed me to ask this...bare with me
Do you get splash silkies by breeding blacks with whites? If you breed white x white will you get all white offspring every time? etc
We're having issues - we're going to get 2 silkie hens and 1 roo. I want 2 splash hens. Mom wants 1 black...
We bought 2 polish hens and 1 polish roo the other day. The hens are a joy <3 Simply sweethearts!
I'm not so sure about Calypso, the 1 1/2 y/o roo.
First off, the woman said he was friendly...then refused to catch him by hand, opting to use a net. His spurs also appear to have been cut...
Currently, we have 1 buff orpington hen (Granny), 3 buff orpington/rhode island red mix hens (Taffy, Vanilla, October), 2 buff orpington/rhode island red roosters (Snickers, Eagle), two polish hens (Tokitae and Lolita) and one polish rooster (Calypso). We just lost a BO/RIR mix hen to a heat...
I've had a pair of ringneck doves for a few years now. Every month they mate many times a day, the female lays 2 eggs, they sit on the eggs, and the eggs rot. Candling always shows empty eggs. I was told the other dove was a male, but he cant seem to fertilize any eggs. I've read that...
Our geese were sold to us as African geese from a large hatchery in California (I don't remember the name). On species identification websites, they don't match the description of African geese. They match the description of Chinese geese (which I know are very closely related). My mom says...
We have 3 adult female African/Chinese geese, and 1 adult male.
They hatched out 1 male and 1 female, which we're hand raising.
We're getting conflicting information as to whether or not the father will fight with his son once his son is older.
I don't want to take the chance - I'd much rather...
Our year-old African geese laid eggs and hatched two successfully for the first time! After the babies hatched, we brought them inside to be hand raised.
Baby number one, a male named Dumpling, hatched 2 days before the other. Dumpling was doing wonderfully until he hit about a week to a week...
