    Sexing new chicks

I would say the red one and maybe the white polish are cockerels. The others are likely pullets. Post the white polish on one of the polish lists and they will tell you for sure. What kind of chicken is the red one? You will be able to know for sure in the next couple of weeks

Need help with sexing if anyone has any ideas at this point. Sexing Opal & other non-BS colors

"Jesse" may be a Silver Pied Opal or other variant. I got it from a local breeder who has Opal, Bronze, Blue and BS. It may also be part Spalding. "Frank" is a Blue Pied possibly Spalding. Both are hatched about May 8, 2017

Sexing Opal & other non-BS colors

Do Opal, Bronze, Peach and other color variants still show the same barring that Blue do? I know Black Shoulder is a whole different set of rules, but for "regular" Non-BS colors do the same basic barring rules apply? I cannot find many pictures, or accurately labeled pictures, of peachicks in...

    Polish Y comb genetics

If my F1 is a cross of a strait comb and a V comb, then I get buttercup combs - when I breed those back to a V comb do I get a high percentage of V combs? If I breed F1 to F1 do I get 50/50 V and strait? I have a project going that I am 4 years into and finally getting most of the phenotype I...

    Polish Y comb genetics

I have found genetics discussions on Pea, Rose, Single and Walnut combs, but nothing on Y combs. Anyone know anything? Is it a separate recessive gene? I am working on a project and really would like to know. Thanks

    The Wyandotte Bantam Thread

I bought a pair of SL's about a year ago and have made a mini flock. NONE of the males have spurs. Not even a nub. Is this a breed thing or a mutation?

Safe treats to feed chicks for imprinting?

I suppose "imprinting" is the wrong word. I think "taming and training" would be better. I just wanted to use the treats in conjunction with handling to make handling always a positive experience. The single chick I have right now is being raised with poultry chicks, but gets carried about when...

Safe treats to feed chicks for imprinting?

What treats and at what age can I give treats to chicks? Don't want to make anyone sick. Do want to have tame birds when they grow up. I know what I can feed to adults, just not chicks. Thanks all
