Don't know what to do...Marek's? Something else? Help!

I am pretty new to chickens. So here is my story: Received my first birds in 2011 from a hatchery. Raised them, all was well, until one day, after the first were matured several months, a black Australorp pullet began "stumbling" She was about 20 weeks old I'd say when it started. She was...

    wry neck or other?

Hi all. I'm fairly new to chicken raising (doing so for about 2 years). Anyways, we hatched some chicks from a bator this spring and summer. A few weeks back I had a chick or 2 die suddenly, without any prior symptoms, not at the same time. I attributed it to them being young and moving them...

    OUT DOGS! GET OUT!!!

Ok, you are probably thinking the neighbors dogs, or even my own dogs are trying to kill my chickens. On the contrary. My own dogs (Golden Retrievers) have been trained (not as pups), to be around my chickens, tolerate my chickens, and have learned to like them. Well, not them so much as the...

    Lice on my chicks

I have some 3 week old chicks that I have noticed have lice on them. They were hatched out in the coop, but taken to a brooder within 24 hours. I thought they probably came from the broody hen, but when I checked her, I didn't see any (doesn't mean they aren't there though I suppose). I'm...

    Help! My egg exploded!

So one of my litte banties went broody a couple weeks ago, and I decided to let her sit on the eggs. I collected about 8 over the course of a week or a little more (from her and 4 other banties). Anyways, I was not being exact about anything, and only candled a couple times at random times...

Breeding question on D'uccles and other bearded chickens

I have what may be a silly question...I am new to the chicken world, and decided right off that I wanted to have d'uccles. I somehow managed a cockerel out of a TSC mix last spring, and have more recently acquired some pullets. A friend of mine had told me that if you bred two bearded chickens...

illness mystery driving me crazy! Suggestions?

I have 3 little D'uccle pullets that I was told were 5 months old when I purchased them a month ago, but they were very small. Anyways, they were adorable and I bought them out of a large chicken farm. I was keeping them in a large enclosed dog carrier (with sides), when after a week I noticed...

Help to ID this pullet please

This is a 5 month old pullet purchased out of the mystery bantam bin at TSC. I originally thought that she was a seabright cross of some sort, but I'm not sure. She has a pea comb. Maybe some experts have some good guesses. Any ideas? Thanks.

Help! My Australorp rooster keeps attacking my D'uccle hen!

I have a flock of 26 birds currently, most are roosters. The birds are all pretty young- 16 weeks old, except for 3 bantam hens. The Roosters that I am referring to in this are Austarlorps, and all but 1 will be culled soon. My alpha Australorp rooster, the one I plan to keep, keeps mating...

    Mt Healthy- complaint or compliment?

I received my first order of mail-order chicks today. I was a bit irritated with the ordeal. It could be me, as I have never done this before. I received an email two weeks ago that said my hatch/ship date would be April 22, which was a Sunday, so I naturally thought they would ship today...

More TSC 'Assorted' Bantam Help needed

I have noted that many people need help with these tricky little guys. I do not know which Hatchery my local TSC purchased their banties, but I can't figure out what mine are. Granted I haven't been "in" chickens very long. But I am good at googling and can't figure them out. I am posting a...

Window placement in new coop, help/advice needed please

So, this is my very first post on this site! Very exciting. I am just getting into this chicken thing, and my husband is still building my coop. We have several sized windows we can use, but are not sure which sides to place them to allow for the most light and ventilation. We have been told...
