    The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Hi Ron! I am not sure of the name of the breeder. He was about an hour outside of Madrid. He changes blood lines every 4 years. Next time we're there I'll see if we can look him up again. As far as if they were recreated, I believe the bird was saved from extinction in the 80's and not recreated.

    The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Hi All, I haven't been on here for a very long time, and just wanted to stop by to say hi! It is such a pleasure to see all of these people with Pita Pintas!! And I'm so glad that everyone enjoys the breed as much us I do. We are now chicken-less since we had to move to SoCal. Beach towns don't...

Awesome Jason! Hi Debi! Yes they're a dual purpose breed. Their meat is prized in Europe and they are egg laying machines! Ron - I'm so glad they're doing well! They're little champions. You're going to fall in love with the breed!

So cute!! They look like cheetah colors almost! Congrats on the awesome hatch! I think they'll be fine. They usually snap off when they get too small and I've seen them eat them a couple of times. Shouldn't be a huge issue as long as they don't keep doing it too often! Wow you've been busy...

Cute ad! And lots of congratulations to you and your kids!!! I would have separated him too. I have a cockerel that is 5 weeks old and is the same. He's been that way since the first few days of his life... running around relentlessly chasing and biting others. Even when the others try to run...

LOL I know! We have too many cockerels to grow them out so I'm basically going off their nature now. Good news - we don't have to cull them! Our neighbor is taking the extra roos this weekend for chicken soup. I'm glad I can stay out of it!

I know I should probably wait to cull some of my extra cockerels but tonight is the night. I wanted to get some opinions before I do it. I have 4 basque 5 week old boys, 2 of which are taking the walk to the chopping block tonight. Here's some pics of them: Orange band. He's very sweet to humans...

I've spent my Sunday making a chicken death list :-( 2 more cockerels to pick out and then my parts over. Johnny will do the culling. Ugh! Boywonder - welcome to the thread! I'm in Concord so not too far from you. Sorry to hear you're having issues with bumblefoot. Stick around the thread...

:-( I hope you have a fun trip around NorCal! haha Sorry to hear you lost her. She had a great home with you! (and an amazing name) Sorry you had to put that one down. Can't wait to see the end result of all your hard work! Sorry Ron :-( Eek!! They may still be ok. Don't give up hope! So...

They do! Haha They usually walk in it but I don't mind it because the others will peck it off their feet and eat it. Another way to get them to eat it is to dip your finger in the yogurt and put it on the tip of their beaks. Careful not to get it in their nostrils! That was for chickengirl. I...

You probably don't need to give them Corid if they are only a day old. I would try putting some Save-A-Chick Electrolytes and Save-A-Chick Probiotics in their water. Also, Poly-V-Sol (without Iron) baby drops work well in helping them perk up. I accredit it to saving 5 of my chicks when they...

I have 10 roos and can only keep 4. I've never culled a chicken before and am so scared! We bought a high powered pellet gun. I just can't chop off a head. I feel more confident though because of all of the support on this thread to get through stuff like this. Definitely use us if you need us...

Good Morning everyone!!! I am so glad you're ok! How scary for you. Congratulations! Thanks for the packing pictures. I didn't feel it in Concord! But then again, my head was a little fuzzy last night. I love your stories. You always have such great descriptions! hahaha Glad you didn't fall...

I agree with everyone. Can you get some chicks to put under her? Otherwise, move her to a completely different coop (if you can) without a nest box. I brought my girls that were broody to my backyard coop and they broke in a couple of hours. Good luck! Awesome.. and how patient of you!! :-) I...
