This is the new coop we built for our girls. Its 4x8, built on skids so we can move it around with the tractor.
The floor is wire mesh, this is new for us, hoping the girls don't mind!
The nest boxes are accessible from the outside
There is a people door on one end, a hinged window over...
We have 50 colored rangers that are ready for processing, planning on doing the plucking by hand....any ideas on how long it will take 2 novices to do this? I'm terrified we will run out of time!
Mine have much bigger and redder combs, I have no Leghorn pullets to compare them to, they were part of a mixed dozen I picked out (supposed to have all been pullets). Thanks for the pics!
I have a year old miniature hereford steer who is a bit lethargic, and breathing heavily. He is eating, though not with as much enthusiasm as her usually does....all the others are fine, they are all vaccinated regularly, in a great field, clean water, etc. He stomach also seems a bit...
I am curious also....so after processing, brine in the fridge or whatever for 24 hrs, then rinse and freeze? Does this sound right to someone who knows?
I started sprinkling mine on around 2 weeks, I use deep litter throughout fall and winter, and mix it into the bedding, and have no problems w/ bugs. etc. I have read that it is bad to inhale though so I make sure to do it when the girls are out so they don't breathe in the dust....
I really want to switch to an automatic waterer, I've looked at lots of sites and like the Little Giant fountain, but still can't find how to hook it up, or to what! I would love to do the bucket/gravity thing, but have no idea how!!! Help!
STARTED PULLETS, 8 WEEKS OR OLDER. PREFER BUFF ORPS, EE'S BLACK AUSTRALORPS, BUT WILL CONSIDER OTHER GOOD LAYERS. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING AVAILABLE. THANKS!
Anyone have ideas on where to house my chicks when they are old enough to go out but too young to mix in with my full grown hens? I have a nice brooder for the first few weeks, and a nice coop when they are adults, but am at a loss for what to do with them in between!
Our doe was having about 2 cups a day while she was pregnant, and went up to 4 cups after kidding while she was nursing, then cut back to 2 cups at about 4 weeks, and now back to 1. she may get nothing as the grass gets better depending on how fat she gets:) good luck!
