Leghorn chicks - Is this normal?

My husband came home with a half dozen baby chicks from the feed store a couple of weeks ago. We've had chickens for several years but not familiar with leghorns (which 3 of the chicks are). They've grown extremely fast in the past couple of weeks and have huge feet and legs. One of them more...

    FINALLY! A broody hen!!! YAY!!!!

One of my little banty hens went broody last week and has been sitting on eggs in the pet carrier ever since. She gets out for a few minutes in the morning, eats, drinks and stretches her legs a bit and goes right back. This is our first and I'm so excited!!!

    Bully Banty

Hi all. I've had chickens about a year and a half now and can't imagine being without them. I've got 5 laying hens at this time.. We lost 2 hens and a rooster last spring to a raccoon. Since then, the rest have been safely tucked away in my back yard. I know they need to go back to their...

    Favorite Christmas Songs

What's your favorite Christmas carol/song? Favorite carol is Oh Holy Night. When it's sung right, it always gives me chills. Favorite songs are The Carpenters Merry Christmas Darling and Barbra Streisand's It Must Have Been the Mistletoe.

    Rooster neck thing

My rooster does this strange thing with his neck. It's not the rooster neck bob, but it's more like a side to side thing. Is this part of his dance?

    Please pray for the election.

For those of you who believe in prayer, please pray for Tuesday's election. I won't reveal which side I support, but I will say that for the first time in my life, I'm terrified as to what will happen to not only my country, but also my family if the wrong person is elected.

I'm so excited! After years of begging, I've finally talked my 8 year old into being a cowgirl for Halloween. Thank goodness she has outgrown her princess phase! I hurried and ordered the costume before she changed her mind. Here's the picture of it from the website. I ordered everything...

    Meat Birds VS Pets

I've got a comment. I know some of you raise your birds for the meat and for some they are beloved pets. Personally, I eat chicken, but I could never eat one that I raised. (Hypocritical, I know.) I'm amazed at how well both groups seem to get along. I think it says a lot about the people...

    Chicken see, chicken do

My "flock" is small. Only a rooster and a couple of girls. (I hope that changes.) I looked out this morning and got a chuckle because all three were grooming themselves. I'm sure that one starts and the others decides that looks like a good idea. Is there anything else they'll do by copying...

    Thank you!

I just want to say as a newbie, thank you all so much for your patience and kindness that you have shown to those of us who are new to chickens. At other message boards (none poultry ones), if a new posters asks a question that's been answered before the "regulars" flip out, so anyone who reads...

Little roo is hen pecked. Is this normal?

I've got two hens and a rooster who is younger. I'm not sure how old he is. We didn't raise him. Anyway, for the first couple of weeks, my girls were horribly mean to him. After that, they accepted him, but they still seem dominant over him. He stands back and lets them eat, which I've...
