KC ducks not laying even though I've provided them with additional lighting

Thanks everyone! I'm glad I'm not alone! Hopefully I'll start seeing some action in the coming months! I'm in CT and it has been incredibly cold here. Last year they were laying through the winter, but perhaps this year has been a little too much for them. Thanks again!

KC ducks not laying even though I've provided them with additional lighting

I'm starting to get a bit worried. I have 5 female KC ducks over a year old that have stopped laying eggs, even with the addition of light I've provided them in the beginning of the season. All my chickens are laying quite well, but I haven't had any action from the ducks in months. They are...

    Help!!!!! Please!!!

I can't imagine someone would want a cochin to eat (there are so many other good eating birds), but if I were you I would try to sell at a premium it to discourage buyers from slaughter.

Update: Candled eggs! Questions on letting broody hens/ hens hatching eggs

Update!! After following ridgerunners advice, one of my hens is the pround mama of two ducklings! So far everyone is doing well and integrating in the flock quite nicely. Baby ducks were hatched on Friday and they are looking great! Thanks again, Ridgerunner!

Update: Candled eggs! Questions on letting broody hens/ hens hatching eggs

Another question... I started to candle the eggs just to see what was going on ( i realize this is in daylight so it doesn't work as well). The light wouldn't pass through the shell. I tried fresher eggs to compare and indeed the light passed through it quite easily. Does this mean that I have...

Update: Candled eggs! Questions on letting broody hens/ hens hatching eggs

Thanks Ridgerunner for taking the time to answer all of my questions! You've provided me with great comprehensive material! I've decided to let them be for a couple weeks and observe what happens... But now I have great information going forward! My husband and I really appreciate the info...

Update: Candled eggs! Questions on letting broody hens/ hens hatching eggs

Ok, so this is my first experiment in the broody business, AND I'm relatively new to raising chickens. So, let me start off by saying that I had suspected I had a couple broody hens laying on a clutch, but I couldn't really get in to check on them because I had this extremely aggressive...

Uh oh! Allergy to duck eggs?

Oh I absolutely love runners!! I'm so sorry about your allergy. :-(

Uh oh! Allergy to duck eggs?

Thanks! I don't believe it's related to the feed since I haven't got any reaction from my chickens and I feed them the same stuff. I'm going to try it again. I've only had one other allergic reaction that I can recall and it was after eating dinner at a high end restuarant. I finished with...

Uh oh! Allergy to duck eggs?

Finally my KC girls finally started laying for me!! After 28 weeks of waiting and waiting! Large, cream colored beauties! With the first several eggs I gathered I made a pound cake. It was delicious! Then moments later I started coughing and it was immediately followed by discomfort in the...

    Best Yard Duck Breed?

I LOVE my khaki Campbells! They are so sweet, but they are a bit on the timid side.

    Nesting questions :0)

My apologies if this sounds long winded, but this is for the edification of those who wish to respond. Here is my story: I am brand new to this: In May I bought 10 australorps (9 hens and 1 roo), my pullets are not laying yet, and showing no signs of any interest (about 23 weeks now). Within...

    Impatiently waiting for eggs!

When will my Khaki Campbells lay?! They are 22 weeks old this week! I haven't seen 1 egg out of 4 female ducks. My chickens aren't laying yet either (I guess that's another story). Right now I feel like I'm running an expensive petting zoo! Anything i can do to speed up the process? Also, (I'm...
