This thread is really just a handful of you that are friends. It's not really a Colorado thread. Since I'm not with the 'in crowd', I'm gonna bow out of the CO thread. Good luck with all your babies!

    Swallowed a cigarette butt

So 2 days ago my 13 week old barred rock found a cigarette butt that was thrown into my yard, I guess, since I don't smoke. I tried to get it, but she swallowed it before I could get to her. She seemed fine, but yesterday she is 'gaping' every once on a while. I can't see it in her throat. Will...

So my girls are 11 weeks old and lose a few feathers a day. When I part their feathers, there are always tons of new feather starts. Do they continue to grow and lose feathers constantly or is this part of the process of becoming adults? I've checked for lice/mites and they do not have them.

I have tried yogurt and mixed in some meal worms. They try it. Sneeze a couple times and then wipe their beaks. Lol. I don't know.

At what age will my chicks begin to like scraps? They are 10 weeks old and still turn their beaks up at pretty much anything I try to give them (with the exception of meal worms, of course). One of them ate a bit of string cheese the other day. I put a slice of watermelon in the run for them...

I put a roosting bar in my brooder and the chicks started using it at 3 weeks old. Like gardendufus said, they just need to get used to it! Mine stopped using the roost when I put them outside in the coop/run at 5 weeks. Now they'll use the roosts in the run but the roosts in the coop are...

Yes, they're just 7.5 weeks old. I've made sure they have a good shady spot in the run.

Pecked in the eye by a chicken??

One of my sweet girls got me the other day. I always wear my sunglasses now if they're crawling around on me. They are stinkers. But so cute, you just have to forgive them. :)

My girls had combs early on. I just know when someone usually spots a roo, their combs and wattles grow leaps and bounds faster than any pullet. The Sagitta look a lot like my Red Star. And boy do they kick their growth into overdrive around that age. My babies will be 7 weeks old on Friday...

They're about 4.5 weeks old? Girls, both, I think. I'm not an expert. But they are almost identical to mine.
