If you are in my area I am going to be re-homing them in batches, you wouldn't need to take all 20. I already have someone to take about 5 of them and another person is taking another 5 once they are all ready. And yup will get some pics up - took them all out in the yard for a little...

Thanks so much! I called my feed store, they do not have duck starter but they do have 18% All Flock which I was going to be getting for my chickens anyway so my guess is that would be better then what I have now? Yup, just went in and showed them that water again and they appear to be...

someone dropped a tub of baby ducks on my porch - please help me

For some reason that I have not been able to figure out, someone dropped a tub of 20 ducklings on my porch today. They appear to be wild ducks and very newly hatched. I don't know why some person did this, other than the fact that we keep chickens and often take in rescue chicks so they...

    Help Dying Chicks!!!!

From what I understand a 10% mortality rate is normal with these chickens. I haven't tried to raise that many at a time though, I usually keep my batches of meat chickens much lower (10-15) so I don't know if that changes things or not. I usually only offer food to mine 12 hours on and 12...

Baby chicks kept indoors until theyre 4 weeks old?

I take my chicks outside for "playtime" starting at a week old (weather permitting) -- I stay with them the whole time but they love running around in the grass.

    My rooster finally crowed!!!!

It was his first time and at sundown of all the odd things. He stood up tall. Puffed himself up. Reached out his neck! And...... let out the saddest crow I have ever heard. I swear, it sounded like someone had stepped on him and all the air came out. He was so proud of himself though -...

Another barred rock in question! :)

Dixie - I don't blame you - I had originally said no roosters and that if we ended up with any pullets turned roos they would end up in the freezer. The BR roo ended up being so sweet I said we could keep him. : )

Another barred rock in question! :)

those are cockerels. The boys tend to have the barred look right away while the girls look almost spotted. I have a BR cockerel and pullet and LOVE them, they are hands down my favorite out of the whole flock. My cockerel will eat right out of your hand.
