    Chicken not sleeping...heat?

There is no light. She is one of my first flock and has always slept on her roost. This is unusual.

    Chicken not sleeping...heat?

I just went out to check on my hens, it's 11:00. Found my favorite girl just hanging out in the doorway to the coop (inside the run). Picked her up and onto the perch. She just jumped down and went back out. She has been sleeping in the nesting box lately, so then I tried to put her in there...

REQUEST FOR TOP TEN COOP FEATURES

hmmmm. It has been a while since I posted. There are pictures in my profile, not sure how to transfer. The metal strip is just like a piece of molding or weather dripping, that slants slightly toward the ground.

REQUEST FOR TOP TEN COOP FEATURES

The best thing we did when we built our coop was to make the doors and windows "modular". The entire window and the panel between window and floor pop out. So when it is time to clean out the coop, we just pull a wheelbarrow up to the open frame, shovel it out, and then clean and hose it right...

    Temporary coop and run

I know. Chain link is too open and Coons can reach right though. That's why I think I should cover the chain link with hardware cloth, securing it tightly to the chain link.

    Temporary coop and run

Hey everyone- I know there have been a million posts about dog runs, but I just need to run this idea by chicken people. We are moving to a new house, giving up our BELOVED coop that is built like Fort Knox, completely predator proof. Of course I built is before I had chickens, so they have...

    Bald Astrolorp

Good advice everyone. It's still a mystery, but I will sneak and watch them at night. They have about a 8 feet of roosting space for 7 hens. I can add more if need be.

How to keep 2 baby chicks warm on a 9 hour drive?

We tried a couple of things that didn't work. Rigged up a heat lamp attached to a tension curtain rod that went from window to window. It was great until we were on the road and the lamp blew out both of the cigarette lighters in the car. We had to go home and leave the next day. Great idea, but...

How to keep 2 baby chicks warm on a 9 hour drive?

Just did an eight hour drive 4 weeks ago with six 3 day old chicks. Put them in a plastic storage tub (the large size) and taped three hot water bottled around one corner of the tub. Covered the bottles with towels, and the floor of the tub with newspaper and paper towels. Used tape to secure...

    Bald Astrolorp

I have gone out and checked all the girls thoroughly, could find no sign of infestation. Not sure if it is mites or lice, or something else. Are there any signs I should be looking for in the coop that would be a clue? I just moved in 6 new babies, worried about them as well as the big girls.

    Bald Astrolorp

I would love to, but for some reason the site keeps telling me that I cannot download any pics. Weird. A verbal picture - there are no feathers on her actual head. She has feathers on her neck and all the rest of her body. No missing feathers anywhere else or on any of the other seven birds.

I did and couldn't find anything. Would they affect only one bird in the flock ?

    Bald Astrolorp

Not an emergency, but my Astrolorp has no feathers on her head. She lost them months ago, almost a year. At first I thought it was molting, but they have never come back. Anyone know what this might be??

    Bay Area BYCers!

WE'RE HOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The best part of the trip was when I pulled down the passenger seat mirror, and in it I saw a baby chick on TOP of the brooder, instead of IN the brooder! Apparently we decided to learn to fly (6 days old) ... in the car. LOL

    Traveling with Baby Chicks

After reading some of threads here, I am not sure my situation qualifies. Good thoughts to everyone here dealing with the heavy stuff. Any help I can get with our tiny emergency, would be very welcome. Our baby chicks were delivered to the wrong address, three hundred miles from where they are...

    Bay Area BYCers!

aaaaggggh. Our saga continues. We were supposed to drive them home yesterday. Bought a converter for the car so we could hang a heat lamp for warmth. Three converters later, both cigarette lighters were shorted out. Spent yesterday afternoon trying to find some sort of battery operated...
