    Accidental hatch

We went on vacation and had someone else tending the animals. There was a miscommunication, and the eggs were left. When we got home, we had a broody quail setting. I left her alone because the eggs were already developing. Can I leave them in the pen with the rest of them? They are in a 4x10...

free chickens and roosters in Northeast LA

I don't have time for my chickens anymore. They are really beginning to be neglected. I have an assortment. There are a few of each of silver laced wyandottes, welsummers, production reds, black sex links, mixed orpington (just one),and barred rocks. There are 13 or 14 I think plus two very...

    Anybody ever use Heartland Hatchery?

Anybody ever bought from them and what was their experience? How about the quality of the chicks? Their prices seem great plus they have a good variety. Thanks!

I have two welsummer roos and only need one. They are very pretty and just getting to the mating age. So far there has been no aggressive behavior at all. My six year old is in and out of the pen a lot and no problems whatsoever. They are supposed to be from the Kelly something or other line...

75 gallon fish tank (complete set-up ) for sale Northeast Louisiana

I am ready to be fishless. We need the space more than we need the fishtank. We are asking $250. That includes a 75 gallon oceanic tank with no leaks or problems. The only slight thing is my son hit a glass against one corner and left a couple of very small chips. These in no way cause any...

    My house STINKS!!!!

We have a 75 gallon fish tank. A few days ago I noticed a silverdollar was missing. I turned everything in the tank upside down... no fish. I looked on the floor around the tank (it has a canopy but one end is open in the back)... no fish. Now we smell the fish and let me tell you, it STINKS...

Crushed rice (aka run over with a forklift rice) ?

I am the proud owner of about 100 lbs of rice seed that was run over several times by a forklift when the bag busted before it could be treated. How much can I feed them and can I feed it to them? Gotta love free food, especially now though. Edited because evidently I can not spell of.

Here are my new babies. They hatched last night and early this morning. Well except for one incubator destroying lonely troublemaker that hatched yesterday afternoon.

    Day 21 !! Update: Day 22 and I have 3 pips!!!

And so far.. NUTTIN!!!!! This is exasperating, disheartening, disappointing, pitiful, very sad, and all those other big words that mean the same thing that I can't think of. At 18 days i saw movement in the biggest egg but saw a lot of growth in all the rest. They were smaller darker...

    Seeping egg???

One of my eggs has a tiny dot of what looks like sorta dried egg white on the shell. It is gluey feeling and about the size of a pin head. Is this what is called a seeping egg? It is not seeping anymore if it is. It just has that tiny dot of dried. Do I need to do away with it? I carefully...

    Cup of tea!

One day my mother was out and my dad was in charge of me and my brother who is four years older than I am. I was maybe 1 1/2 years old and had just recovered from an accident in which my arm had been broken among other injuries. Someone had given me a little 'tea set' as a get-well gift and it...

    Vet school

First-year students at Texas A&M's Vet school were receiving their first anatomy class, with a real dead cow. They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, "In Veterinary Medicine it is necessary to have two...

    Pretty impressed :)

I candled my eggs today. They have had a rough time. My son hit something on the surge protector and it turned it off. Luckily I caught it but it did cool down to about 78 degrees. My daughter was watching it yesterday while i took my baby girl to the dr. She accidentally turned it up rather...

    I forgot.. which end up?

I got my eggs in today and I forgot which end needs to be up. I am hoping to put them in the bator tonight. They are resting now... but which end up while they are resting and what if one does not have an "and" lol? Also, what temp needs to be in the bator and the homemade water wiggler (ziploc...

    Need some hatching eggs

Hi, I am looking for dual purpose eggs from good layers. I would like something different from what I already have. Mixed breeds are fine as long as they are not bantams and are heavy birds. I like pretty rainbow chickens. I have barred rocks, production reds, black sex links, and silver...

Wanted cheap used but working incubator

It can be ugly, beat up, homemade as long as it works (and works pretty well). I am looking for one to use with my kids. I looked at the instructions to make one and I am really not that talented. We need to get a few more chickens, but I would really rather show them the whole process rather...

Really stupid question (about the bullseye)

I have 11 hens. I don't have a rooster and have not had one for about 2 months. I cracked an egg today and there was a very obvious bullseye in both yolks (double yolker). I cracked another and yet another very obvious bullseye. I don't have a rooster. I don't get it. I do have one very...
