I need some advice on putting a tarp over my run for this winter. We do not get heavy snows where I'm at, may be 3 or 4 inches ever couple of years. I currently have a 8 x 16 run. I need advice on what to put up to slant the tarp to shed rain.
Very old picture of when I first built my chicken...
If you don't open the bottom how do you get the poop and guts out? I really have never cooked a bird with the internal organs still inside? Is that even safe?
ETA: I'm soaking them because that's what I read to do on this site?
I processed 2 20 week old roosters for the 1st time on Sunday. My husband "culled" the roosters, I plucked all the feathers, he cut the bottom opening and removed the insides. I washed them really good and removed some pin feathers. I put them in a big pot covered in salt water and I guess I...
Well as bad as their situation seems to be, they do have a computer and the internet. That's why my daughter like to go over there. BUT her disability can make her an unwelcome guest really fast. I think they spent 2 days there and my DD "had" to come home. Yep, I knew the reason. That's why God...
Okay story....
My 18 yo DD has an iPod (3 years old) and wants the new iPod Touch (which I've bought already). She made the comment the other day that if she got the new iPod she wanted to give her friend the old one. Well I paid almost $300 for that iPod and I want if for myself, which I told...
I have 5 pigeons that are arriving on Friday next week. I have a 8 x 16 aviary and 4 x 3 coop. I don't know where to buy pigeon supplies, but was wondering if they could use the avian nipple waterers? I do have a chicken type waterer if they can't. Thanks a lot!! Melissa
I really liked this thread. I watch lots of horse training videos. I wanted to train my mule. My husband trained his horse and did a good job at it. I thought (silly me) I could watch videos and my husband would help me train my mule. So when she was 3 my husband put a blanket on her and had her...
Looks good, but take one end and cover with wood on three sides to provide them with a wind block (and floor). You could make a pop door (may be has an access door already) and put a ramp for ground access. BUT don't expect them to use the ramp to go back up at first. Make the ramp wide, wider...
15 Bean Soup
Put 1 bag dried 15 beans in crock pot and cover with water (1 1/2 quarts water), cut up 1 big onion, 1 tooth garlic minced, 1 pint tomatoes, 1 ham hock or cubed left over baked ham, and cook 5 hours on high or 8 on low
Serve with tortilla chips and sour cream, yummy
Well, I don't know that I forgave my father who abandoned me after my mom died and he remarried an 18 year old witch who didn't like children, I was 5. Forgot, yes I have, I do not think of him, only when I read something like this do I think of him. It's doesn't even hurt any more to see him...
He's not big enough for one person to eat, but after a search on here some one posted an article about cooking home raised chicken.
"Historic poultry breeds are, in contrast, very flexible as to butchering age. Any historic pure breed can be
butchered between 7 to 12 weeks for use as broilers...
I find that most big roos ignore the little silkie hens, or treat them like young chicks. BUT my more aggressive birds will not let them eat. My guinea fowl terrorize my silkie rooster. So I have my silkies in their own pen and only let them free range on the weekends while I can watch. So each...
Baked Potato Soup
Peel, cut cook 5 potatoes with just enough water to cover them.
Mix with a little cold water, 1 or 2 tbs flour and add to potatoes (enough to thicken water with potatoes)
Add 2 cups milk and 1/2 cup sour cream, pour over potatoes. (add more milk if you put too much flour)...
