Morning, all! Couple of questions. We discovered a pecking Issue with a couple of hens and dealt with it, however, the 2 that were getting picked on continue to sleep in one of the laying boxes (pile on top of each other) since the 2 known bullies were culled. The egg laying has come to a...
Good morning!
I have chicks that are almost 5 weeks old. They are about to make their maiden voyage to the coop this next week, but I've noticed that they are wasting a majority of their food. We have the basic hanging feeder with slots but it's not hanging, it's just sitting on some bricks...
Hi, all.
I took my goat to the vet a few days ago and had an abscess lanced and drained. I've followed instructions on care, including warm compresses morning and night. The darn thing scabbed over despite our efforts not to let it and it's filling back up again. Not sure what to do and I'm...
Hi, all.
I have an Aracauna that is showing signs of lethargy. For the past few days, she's been keeping to herself and today she seems to be wanting to lay around. When I go to pick her up, rather than bolting from me like usual, she lets me pick her up. I do not feel a bulge where her crop...
Hi, all.
We have a new freshener who gave birth to 3 kids yesterday. They all stand just fine and wag their little tails as if they are happy. They are not super energetic and do tend to lay around a lot, but I've seen all of them latch on at least once. I never see the runt (only doe out of...
Good morning.
I have several goats that are pregnant. One of them had a due date that came and went. She has no blood or outward signs of having given birth, she's thinner as if she's given birth and she appears to be in milk because I've seen one of her adult babies nursing and it appears...
Hi, all.
I have a flock of 29 chickens... 27 hens, 1 roo and 1 hermie. I say the one is a hermie because it (Jackie) has a very large comb and waddle and big feet and has been relentlessly picked at off and on for 1.5 years. Jackie has short tail feathers like a hen and never crows... just...
HI, all.
We've researched the curing of spraddle led/curled toes but mostly what we are finding is info about day old chicks. We didn't notice this problem until it was quite obvious, as we've raised 3 different rounds of chicks without ever having run into this. Our White Leghorn pullet is...
I have the most wonderful goat who has turned aggressive after kidding. She's akidding vet and has had many babies. Why the aggression toward us? She bit my son in the forehead when he leaned down to pet a baby. She went after my face twice. I'm shocked. We were not around for her previous...
I was just curious as to wen the baby needs water in addition to milk. I've heard horror stories about kids drowning in water buckets.
Advice is appreciated!
Good morning!
We recently purchased a small-scale farm... 4 dairy goats (nigerian dwarfs), a buck and 3 doe; several meat rabbits, already experienced 2 litters of kits and 25 pullets (we've done chickens before).
Questions:
We did deep litter with our goats this last winter. Never...
My Sagitta has a red, bare butt that starts from where her tail feathers should be and goes all the way down to the bottom of her rear. Basically, where the fluffy down should be. We have checked for mites/lice and found nothing. The rest of her feathers are shiny and beautiful and all of our...
Hi, all!
We went out of town for about 10 days. We had someone coming over to care for the chickens every 2-3 days. They had ample food, water, treats and space. They were not confined to the coop because we covered the north and west sides of the run with clear plastic and left the run...
Hi, all!
I have a beautiful flock consisting of 7 hens. They are all wonderful and lay like crazy. They are...
Susie - Sagitta
Tinkerbell - Golden Campine
Willa - Giant Blue Cochine
Fiona - Jersey Black Giant
Sable - Araucana
Snowflake - White Orpoington
Olivia - Silver Laced Wyandotte...
She did so in the run and the egg shell was almost nonexistent, as though she laid more of just a yolk. She then just sort of stood there while all of the others ate what she had laid, not moving much at all. Is this normal? Could there be a problem?
Many thanks.
I feed my older chicks (3 weeks old) mealworms. My Sagitta always seems to miss when she goes to grab a worm. She doesn't seem to be able to see them and subsequently loses her worms to the other chicks because of this. It takes multiple tries for her to actually grab the worm in her mouth...
Good morning, all! I posted these questions in the wrong area (the intro section), so I'm now going to start a thread in the proper area. I'm sorry!!!
1.) My chicks are 2 and 3 weeks old. the older ones seem to be shying away from being held. Is this normal? Also, they like to peck at me...
Hi, all! Glad to be a new member to this truly awesome community. I've been browsing around here for a few days, trying to collect my thoughts for questions. I just purchased several different breeds of pullets. This is definitely my first rodeo! I have a few quick questions.
1.) My...
