    Picture thread of my hens!

So wonderful! And thank you for taking the time to get her from the side of the road--and how amazing are these critters that after being neglected and cast off, she was still friendly and willing to take a chance on a human <3 Have you named her yet?

    The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Haha! We joke that maybe they think they just farted or were constipated. It's like it doesn't dawn on them that they had an egg coming out! ;) It is funny to see these huge fluffy basketball sized birds stand up and see the teeny egg under them! Slowly getting up to size though. And very yummy!

    The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Woohoo! Mine started too and despite locking them in the run for 5 days, I'm still finding them all over. Yesterday I let them out and one laid in the middle of the yard and just kept walking while another dropped one out on the porch among my shoes!

The Imported English Jubilee Orpington Thread

Anyone had an issue with a hen being rumpless? My one hen ended up looking like an emu! ;P I don't feel a tail in there, but her tail feathers hang down and sort of block a clear path for her poo. I clip them or she gets all matted with droppings. Her back and spinal area don't feel abnormal to...

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

ahahaha! I have saddles on my girls' from Louise's Country Closet and everyone that sees my girls' running around in their "outfits" thinks its hilarious (or that I'm nuts dressing my chickens). They don't realize I have roos and that the saddles are for an actual functional purpose! lol

    The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Haha! I have tiny pterodactyl as well. She's incredibly LOUD from the moment she wakes up til I close the coop door at night. I'm honestly more worried about neighbors complaining about her than the three roos, who are really quiet! She is super friendly and curious though, but extremely chatty...

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I totally caved. I just bought an incubator. My frizzles have fertile eggs and my Orps are starting to squat and have caught them in nest boxes practicing. All the cute chicks everywhere I turn and finally my coop is how I want it, I just couldn't control myself! Lol

Unfortunately, no hens to go along with him :( He has just begun showing interest in the ladies though. He is dog savvy and not an excessive crower.

Lavender English Orp cockerel for sale WA state

Yardley is an English Orp from Papas Poultry. He is around 5mos old (hatched roughly Oct13, 2014). He has been raised on non-gmo, organic feed and lots of fresh veggies & fruits, and free-ranges daily. Excellent lookout and coops up nicely. Just not going to breed lavenders so he needs a flock...

How often should I completely clean out my chicken coop?

I find for myself, it depends on a lot of factors, such as climate, coop and run size, whether you free range or not, bedding type, and climate. I live in the Pac NW so its drizzly and muddy here right now. I use a combo of Sweet PDZ and sand in my coop and I free range every day rain or shine...
